IMPORTANT NOTICE

 

The University Catalog at CSU, Chico is published on a one-year cycle. This one-year cycle began with the 2011-2012 University Catalog. It is expected that a one-year cycle will help the University better coordinate with the Degree Audit Process and a restructured curriculum review process. Deans, department chairs, and curriculum committee members should be aware of this one-year cycle for several reasons:

  1. To protect reliability of current catalog information for the many off-campus users, changes to existing programs or courses are normally approved for implementation effective with the next catalog. New degrees and courses are usually made effective for the next academic year, and will appear in that catalog. New degrees and courses will be put in the Web-based version of the catalog as soon as possible after approval.
  2. The need for review and approval by the Academic Senate and by the Chancellor's Office and/or CPEC requires lengthy lead time for technical review and timely submissions of proposals to guarantee formal approval in time for inclusion in the next catalog.
  3. Confidence in our catalog, and on- and off-campus student advising and planning, is greatly improved by having the catalog as accurate and stable as possible over the entire one-year catalog life cycle.

While we provide ample notice that changes may occur between catalogs (and such changes may be approved for compelling reasons, e.g., an accreditation requirement), it is the policy of the University to make every effort to assure the catalog's accuracy throughout the one year it is in service.

The following is the timeline for curriculum planning, course and curriculum revisions, and production of The 2016-2017 University Catalog.

NOTE: "Program" is the umbrella term for the following: degree (e.g., BA, MS,), option, pattern/advising pattern, credential, minor, certificate.

The 2016-2017 University Catalog Production Calendar

Spring-Fall 2014

Begin submitting error corrections and standard course and curriculum changes for the 2016-2017 University Catalog. Report new programs and proposed program changes to Curriculum Services in Academic Affairs. If a new degree or option is planned, it must be reported as early as possible in the curriculum planning cycle.

Fall 2014

Confirm plans for any NEW programs for the 2016-2017 University Catalog with Curriculum Services.

Review proposed changes to existing undergraduate programs with Curriculum Services to determine if the proposal should be a significant or minor change. Graduate program changes should be reviewed with the Office of Graduate Studies (GRAD).

Schedule a curriculum workshop with Curriculum Services if your unit needs assistance with procedures, paperwork requirements, and general questions. 

November 1, 2014-November 1, 2015

Departments and programs are responsible for shooting any new photos they would like to see included in the new catalog. Photos must be delivered to the Catalog Editor in a format acceptable for Web publication. If the department or program would like to have existing catalog photos retired, contact the Catalog Editor.

November 26, 2014

Deadline to submit a formal conceptual abstract for new degree programs to Curriculum Services (undergraduate programs) or the Office of Graduate Studies (graduate programs) for review. After the abstract is approved by Curriculum Services or GRAD, follow up with a new program proposal. NOTE: Conceptual abstracts for new degree programs (e.g., BS, MA) must be sent to the Chancellor's Office in time for placement on our campus Academic Plan in early spring, so we cannot take late submissions.

January 30, 2015

For the spring Academic Senate cycle, this is the deadline for any proposal requiring EPPC/Academic Senate review* (and in some cases CO and/or CPEC review and approval). Submit proposals to Curriculum Services (KNDL 102). Proposals submitted after January 30 and before May 30 will be scheduled for the fall Academic Senate Cycle.

February 1-November 15, 2015

The Catalog Editor will request catalog updates for narrative text throughout the catalog including the front page of each academic program chapter. Submission of updates for all narrative text and service and administrative chapters will be on-going with proof copies in .pdf format provided to submitters for turn around on a continuous basis until the final deadline, November 1, 2015.

March 27, 2015

For the spring Academic Senate Cycle, this is the last day a proposal requiring  EPPC/Academic Senate review will be given an agenda date.

March 27, 2015

General Education and Diversity deadline to submit the following proposals: Application for USD or GC Status, Application for Addition to a Pathway, Application for WI or Capstone Status, Application for Foundation Status. Submit proposals to Curriculum Services (KNDL 102). Proposals submitted after March 27, 2015 cannot be guaranteed implementation in the 2016-2017 catalog.

April 24, 2015

Last day to email Memos of Intent and other required documents to the Intent Distribution List for the spring semester.  All responses to advertised material must be made by May 8, 2015.

May 29, 2015

For the fall Academic Senate cycle, this is the deadline for any proposal requiring EPPC/Academic Senate review* (and in some cases CO and/or CPEC review and approval). Submit proposals to Curriculum Services (KNDL 102). Proposals submitted after May 29, 2015 cannot be guaranteed implementation in the 2016-2017 catalog.

May 29, 2015

Deadline for all course (CPCRs) and minor program change proposals*. Submit proposals to Curriculum Services (KNDL 102).  Proposals submitted after May 29, 2015 cannot be guaranteed implementation in the 2016-2017 catalog.

September 4, 2015

For the fall Academic Senate Cycle, this is the last day to schedule any proposal requiring spring EPPC/Academic Senate review.

September 18, 2015

General Education deadline to submit applications for Advanced Course Substitutions, Capstone Substitutions and Major Course Substitutions.  Submit proposals to Curriculum Services (KNDL 102). Proposals submitted after September 18, 2015 cannot be guaranteed implementation for the 2016-2017 catalog. 

October 30, 2015

Deadline for all "narrative" text changes for academic program front pages and all administrative and service chapters. Submit changes to the Catalog Editor.

October 30, 2015

Deadline for all changes to faculty information, especially new faculty and promotion information.  NOTE:  Please inform the Academic Publications & Scheduling Services, Holly Soldavini, of all new hires and deletions.

November 30, 2015

Last day to email Memos of Intent and other required documents to the Intent Distribution List for the fall semester.  All responses to advertised material must be made by December 11, 2015.

November 13-December 18, 2015

All catalog copy is submitted to colleges and departments for proof reading in two rounds during November and December 2015. All catalog copy is finalized and readied for Web publication in December and January.

January 15, 2016

The 2016-2017 University Catalog is published on the Web and the next Academic Planning and Catalog Production cycle begins. Print-ready .pdfs will be available online if individuals wish to print a hard copy.

* only minor program changes do not require EPPC/Academic Senate review.

Procedures

Proposals for: new degrees, options, minors, and certificates; programs being discontinued; significant program revisions; name changes; reorganizations/moves must be submitted according to procedures outlined in the Academic Department Manual section on Academic Program Proposals and Revisions. Proposals must be submitted to Academic Affairs no later than January 30, 2015 for the 2016-2017 Catalog. No exceptions.
Note: Conceptual Abstracts for new degree programs (e.g., BS, MA) must be delivered to Academic Affairs before November 26, 2014.

To be effective in the 2016-2017 Catalog, proposals can either move through the spring 2015 or fall 2015 Academic Senate cycle. For the spring Academic Senate cycle, proposals must be submitted to Academic Affairs no later than January 30, 2015. Any of the proposal types mentioned above that are submitted after January 30, 2015 and before May 29, 2015 will go through the fall Academic Senate cycle. There is a chance that proposals submitted late in the cycle will not be approved during the fall cycle.  Proposals requiring EPPC/Academic Senate review submitted after May 29, 2015 will not take effect with the 2016-2017 Catalog, with no exceptions.

Minor changes to existing programs require marking up a copy of the current catalog description, reflecting clearly all adds, deletions, and changes to the program and narrative text. (See the Minor Changessection on Program Proposals and Revisions in the Academic Department Manual for complete instructions.) Follow catalog form exactly in your mark-up of revisions, including full identification of prerequisites, for all course additions or inserts. Consult with Curriculum Services (x4116) or Holly Soldavini (x4158) in Academic Publications for mark-up procedures.Minor changes are due in Curriculum Services  by May 29, 2015.
