Guidelines for Adding a Course to a GE Pathway

A New Course Requesting Inclusion into a GE Pathway

  1. Consult with the Pathway Coordinator for the pathway you wish to apply to. 
  2. Complete Application for Addition to a Pathway and forward to Curriculum Services, KNDL 102, zip 110.
  3. Curriculum Services will notify the initiator(s) if the course has been approved by CAB.
  4. After the course receives GE approval by CAB, the following policies to add a new course must be be followed.
  • CPCR
  • New Course Proposal Memo with signatures.  Signatures of department chair and college dean indicate that course approval procedures practiced by the department and college have been completed.  In the event the proposal is rejected during some stage of the approval process, written notice of the reason for rejection should be provided to the initiator(s) by the department chair or college dean as appropriate.
  • Memo of Intent. The memorandum should be circulated after the college approval process via the Intent Distribution List on campus e-mail, with a two week response request deadline.  Distribution of the memo must occur while regular classes are in session (see Catalog Deadlines for due dates).  It is the responsibility of the college dean to respond to any reservations or suggestions received or to refer the matter to Academic Affairs for resolution.  A copy of all responses, reservations, or suggestions, with an indication of how the reservation was accommodated or resolved, should be attached to the Memo of Intent before submitting the paperwork to Curriculum Services in Academic Affairs. 

An Existing Course Requesting Inclusion into a GE Pathway

  1. Consult with the Pathway Coordinator for the pathway you wish to apply to.
  2. Complete Application for Addition to a Pathway and forward to Curriculum Services, KNDL 102, zip 110.
  3. Curriculum Services will notify the initiator(s) if the course has been approved by CAB.
  4. After the course receives GE approval by CAB, the following policies to add GE status to a course must be followed.
  • CPCR
  • Memo of Intent. The memorandum should be circulated after the college approval process via the Intent Distribution List on campus e-mail, with a two week response request deadline.  Distribution of the memo must occur while regular classes are in session (see Catalog Deadlines for due dates).  It is the responsibility of the college dean to respond to any reservations or suggestions received or to refer the matter to Academic Affairs for resolution.  A copy of all responses, reservations, or suggestions, with an indication of how the reservation was accommodated or resolved, should be attached to the Memo of Intent before submitting the paperwork to Curriculum Services in Academic Affairs. 

An Existing GE Course Requesting Inclusion in an Additional GE Pathway

  1. Consult with the Pathway Coordinator for the pathway you wish to apply to.
  2. Complete Application for Addition to a Pathway and forward to Curriculum Services, KNDL 102, zip 110.
  3. Curriculum Services will notify the initiator(s) if the course has been approved by CAB.  No additional steps are necessary.

In the event an application is rejected during some stage of the approval process, written notice of the reason of rejection should be provided to the initiator(s) by CAB.
