Todd Greene is the Science Director for the Center for Water and the Environment. The primary responsibility of the Science Director is to work with the Managing Director and the CWE Faculty Board to implement CWE’s collective mission and goals. CWE’s mission is to cultivate collaborative research and education to better understand and address the complex and interconnected issues of water and environment in Northern California and beyond. The CWE Science Director’s role is to help advance the research of water and the environment in northern California by engaging faculty and students in research, promoting interdisciplinary collaborations, and networking off-campus.

Dr. Greene’s broad areas of research interests include tectonics and sedimentation, sequence stratigraphy and depositional systems. His main focus is on basin scale questions using a variety of technologies to address paleogeographic and tectonic histories of basins. He works with core, outcrop, shallow 3-D seismic data, and modern analogs to piece together depositional facies models for volcanic-derived deposits (eg. the Tuscan Formation, the main aquifer for the town of Chico), shallow marine clastic sequences, as well as deep-water sediment gravity flows and related bioturbation (eg. Eel River basin and the Great Valley Group of Northern California). He has multiple students working with Tuscan Formation deposits both in outcrop and in the subsurface to better understand and model the framework of the aquifer including permeability pathways and barriers.

Jennifer Rotnem is the Managing Director for the Center for Water and the Environment. Her role is to oversee the administration and management of CWE. She supports CWE grant proposal development and management of projects. She works to partner the campus with the community on water and environmental issues. She coordinates CWE outreach and publicity. She has been directing the College of Natural Sciences' environmental programs since 1998. During that time the college has been successful with its environmental initiatives in a variety of disciplines including aquatic bioassessment, anadramous fisheries, watershed restoration, water quality, remote sensing, and conservation ecology.

Dan is a Taxonomist with the Aquatic Bioassessment Lab (ABL). Dan has worked with aquatic macroinvertebrates for over 20 years, and joined the ABL in October 2000. He is experienced with macroinvertebrates from across the U.S. with emphasis in western states. Currently, he is involved with the identification of all of the projects of the ABL. He is also developing a digital reference collection for aquatic macroinvertebrates of California. He received a B.A. Biology from University of California, Santa Barbara and M.S. Biology/Aquatic Ecology from the University of Alabama.
