Pearson’s MyLab & Mastering B2 update

What's New In Version 3.2.911600568

New Features and Enhancements

The Release Notes provide a high-level overview of the features for Pearson’s MyLab & Mastering Integration Building Block – version 3.2:

Grade Synchronization

  • This release includes enhancements to the grade sync process:
  • A user with a username of pearson_grade_synch is created when the building block is installed or updated.
  • This user has an Institution Role of Guest and System Role of None. The password is an encrypted hash of the timestamp when the user is created.
  • When the Building Block is uninstalled, the user is removed from the system. If the administrator deletes this user, it will NOT be recreated on subsequent installs. If the user is removed by the building block, it WILL be recreated on subsequent installs
  • If the pearson_grade_synch user is not found, the institution-level grade synch will try to load an instructor for the course and that instructor’s name will then show up in the Grade History. (See below for user details).
  • If the pearson_grade_synch user is accidentally deleted, the admin may create a new user in the SYSTEM DSK with username = "pearson_grade_synch", first name = "Pearson" and last name = "Grade Synch". Institution Role should be set to "Guest" and System Role to "None”. The Grades sync process will run asynchronously from within the context of a course.
  • If you manually refresh grades for all gradable items in a course, a message appears indicating the number of grade items and total number of grades and requiring you to click OK to continue.
  • Users are notified via email once the grade synch process completes.
  • The Diagnostics page indicates whether a manual grade synch is in progress.
  • When grade sync is initiated at the institution level for the first time, all applicable courses and users are updated. Subsequent grade sync requests at the institution level check for updates since the last time the grades were synced and only transfers grades that have changed.
  • If you manually upload Pearson grades data to the Blackboard grade center, due dates of individual grade columns that were manually set are now retained.
  • Grade items appear in alphabetical order by item name the first time you manually refresh grades or set up grade sync for individual assignments. You can sort items differently by selecting an option from the Sort Columns By list or by clicking a column name.
  • The Hide from Students setting of a grade column is retained when auto grade sync runs.
  • There are more user-friendly messages for system (403, 404, and 500) errors.

Tools

Course association

  • The reset course association support tool link is renamed Delete MyLab & Mastering course association and appears at the bottom of the Diagnostics page. A new warning message appears that requires the use to enter the word delete before submitting the request.
  • Encoded ampersands (&) can be included in the course title without causing an error when crossing over to MyLab & Mastering from Blackboard.
  • Improved messaging is now available to indicate the course association was successfully deleted or could not be deleted because the Blackboard course is not paired with a MyLab or Modified Mastering course.

Diagnostics page

  • The Diagnostics page includes the Institution identifier, which is the integration's consumer key. The diagnostic page also includes the date/time when the diagnostics was run last by a user in a course.
  • The Diagnostics page indicates whether a manual grade sync is in progress.
  • The Grade synchronization setting field under Course grade synchronization settings on the Diagnostics page indicates the number of Pearson MLM gradable columns deployed to the grade center through the sync process.
  • The Last course grade update field under Course grade synchronization settings on the Diagnostics page indicates who performed the last update. If the update was performed by a user, the Blackboard user ID appears. If the update was performed at the institution level, the field indicates that the update was performed by the auto sync job.
  • The Export File option has a new file format of: pearson-mlm-diagnostics_yyyymmddTHHMMSS.txt.

Roster

  • The roster now allows instructors to view each student's Diagnostics page through the context menu for each row. This view includes all the information displayed in the corresponding student view except for the “Client information and LTI launch diagnostics sections.
  • BBCPE-491: The issue of clicking a Pearson content item / tools redirected users back to Blackboard was resolved by adjusting the timeout threshold property in the building block.
  • BBCPE-494: The admin tool feature to export course search results via the building block support options (course roster and diagnostics information) was resolved, and the CSV export feature now works as expected.
  • BBCPE-487: The building block had an issue with date format declaration, which caused due dates for the Pearson gradable items to be persisted incorrectly. This issue was resolved so that the building block reads and persists the due dates in the UTC time format.
