ADVANCED TOPICS

• Common Gateway Interface (CGI)
Note for local developers:  CGI are typically placed in a cgi-bin directory under your main directory on the campus Web server, but this is not a requirement. The cgi-bin directory you create should have  group read, write, execute set; and world execute set.

However, CGI script names must have a file extension of .cgi Example: myscript.cgi. Locally, cgi programs can be written in C, Perl, Java, or UNIX shell scripts. Scripts should have group read, execute, world read, execute permissions set on them.

It is assumed that you are familiar with one of these development tools before implementing cgi in your Web area. You may find the links below helpful in your programming endeavors.
