Dhanu joined Chico in Fall 2016 after earning the Ph.D. from Clark University, Massachusetts. Originally from Sri Lanka, she is passionate about children in developing countries and divides her time between academic research, teaching, and volunteering for organizations specializing in child well-being. Her doctoral work focuses on the lasting effects of exposure to adverse events in early childhood. While her research has a global focus with analyses drawn from Ghana, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka, she aims to convert her findings to other relevant regions both within and outside of US. She teaches Development Economics and Principles of Microeconomics. Outside of academia Dhanu is passionate about languages and other cultures. She speaks Japanese, reads in French, watches European football, and cooks imaginary recipes or some combination therein.
