Economics Programs

A degree in economics prepares students for employment in the private and public sectors both domestically and internationally as economists, analysts, managers, executives, and teachers, and also prepares students to undertake graduate studies in economics, law, and/or business administration. By grouping complimentary courses into concentrated area, students can select studies from a variety of applied, theoretical, and quantitative areas and plan a program around individual interests.

International Economics

The international economics area is designed to prepare students for a variety of careers working with international business and finance or international agencies. Students will gain an understanding of trade theory, and open macroeconomics and international finance and the implication to policy formation and the conduct of international institutions

Environmental Economics

The environmental economics and policy area is designed to give students interested in environmental issues an understanding of the economic theory behind the market failures that lead to environmental degradation and the policies and incentives designed to protect the environment. Students who complete this concentration will be prepared to work for government agencies, private businesses, and special interest organizations that seek to protect the natural environment.

Quantitative Economics

The quantitative economics area is ideal for is ideal for students interested quantitative or empirical based careers such as research associates, and econometricians in a government agencies, business, finance, or consulting groups. This area would also be of particular interest to students pursuing a graduate degree in economics, since advanced mathematics and econometrics are to require gain entry in most if not all masters and PhD programs.

Financial Economics

The financial economics area is designed for students interested in pursuing positions in the private sector or more specifically the financial sector including careers in asset management, commercial banking, investment banking, private equity, and insurance. This area should be particularly appealing to students interested in pursuing a double major in economics and finance.
