Daniel BarnettDaniel Barnett

Daniell Barnett, who graduated in 2009 with a BA in Economics, works on inside sales at FileMaker Inc., an Apple subsidiary, in San Jose, California. After graduation form Chico State Daniel accepted a position in sales with Barracuda. After 3 years he moved to his current position with FileMaker.


Riley BorgesRiley Borges

Riley Borges, who graduated with a BA in Economics in 2012, is a sales representative for ProPacific Fresh in Chico, California.   After graduation he accepted a position as buyer for ProPacific in Durham, California.   Two and one-half years later he moved into sales with ProPacific where he is now in Chico.

Carlton C. Caven IV, who graduated in 2011 with a BA in Economics, is an enterprise regional manager at indeni, a computer software firm specializing in IT network security in San Francisco, California. During his sophomore and junior year at Chico State, Carlton was head coach for Chico State Women’s Soccer Club. During his senior year he worked in operations for Bizness Apps a successful CSU Chico startup currently headquartered in La Jolla, CA.


In 2013 Carlton accepted a position as senior lead development representative at Intuit. In 2014 Intuit promoted him to territory manager for Texas. Carlton moved on to LeadGenius in Berkeley, California as sales executive in late 2014. After a year and one-half helping build LeadGenius, he signed on as enterprise regional manager with indeni where he is currently working with major enterprise IT network environments.

“Earning a degree in economics allows me to understand and contribute complex business situations,” Carlton stated in a recent email.  “Trend analysis, forecasting, resource allocation as well as many other economic skills are applicable in high tech. Matthew Chie

Matthew Chie, who graduated in 2011 with a BA in Economics and a BS in Business Administration with an option in Finance, is an associate at BTIG, LLC in San Francisco. He was a member of the Econ Club, the Finance Club, and the Men’s Rugby team at Chico State. During the summer between his sophomore and junior year Matthew interned with Rayner and Haynor Investment. Counselors and completed a training course at Bloomberg in San Francisco, California. Between his junior and senior year he interned with Global Hunter Securities. Matthew also found time to work as a tutor and grader in the Economics Department at Chico State from 2008 – 2011.

After graduation Matthew worked as an investment associate for Advanced Equities Inc. for almost a year until he took a position as operations specialist for capital markets with Stifel Financial Corporation. In 2014 Matthew joined BTIG where is he is currently working.


Keller CoutlerKeller Coulter

Keller Coulter, who graduated in 2011 with a BA in Economics, is a sales associate with Vans, a Division of VF Outdoor in Arlington, Virginia.  While a student at Chico State Keller was a member of the Econ Club and the Accounting Club.  During his sophomore and junior year Keller helped support himself as a program leader at the Ecke Family YMCA in Encinitas, California.  After graduation Keller worked as a credentialing specialist for NVT Staffing in Falls Church, Virginia for a year before enrolling at George Mason University in 2012.  He participated in the Mock Investing Club and the Finance/Economics Club and he completed his BS in Economics at George Mason in 2013. 

After graduation from George Mason, Keller worked as an operations specialist for Tempus, a firm in Washington D.C. that provides foreign exchange and payments for corporations.  He managed payments and foreign currency positions with Tempus for a year and a half.  He worked for Trump National Golf Club during the last half of 2016.  He began working for Vans at the beginning of 2017.  Keller is looking for a job in finance according to his LinkedIn page.  (Last Updated 6/25/17)


Jesus CruzJesus Cruz

Jesus Cruz, who graduated in 2016 with a BA in Economics, is member support representative for Lending Club. “I provide support over the phone and respond to questions about loan status, assisting clients with navigating our website, and resolve member issues,” Jesus stated in a recent email. “My plan down the road is to move into the Investor/ Capital Markets division with Lending Club, the world’s largest online credit marketplace”.

While a student at Chico Jesus was a member of the Sigma Nu International Fraternity. During his junior and senior years he was vice president of philanthropy and community service for Sigma Nu at Chico State, managing community relations and planning events such as visits to local Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs according to his LinkedIn page. Ryan DuffyRyan Duffy

Ryan Duffy, who graduated in 2013 with a BA in Economics and a BS in Business Administration with an option in Finance, is sales manager at Eight Bridges Brewing in Livermore, California.  While at Chico State Ryan helped support himself by working as an automobile technician, selling and installing car electronics at Best Buy.  After graduation Ryan worked as a sales representative for Boston Beer Company in Los Angeles, California, for approximately 2 years.  In 2015 he joined Eight Bridges Brewing where he is now working.


John DooleyJohn Dooley

John Dooley, who graduated in 1994 with a BA in Economics, is regional sales manager at Epson Electronics America in San Jose, California.   After graduation John took a job in outside sales at Future Electronics in San Jose, California where he worked for 3 years.  In 1998 he moved on to Arrow Electronics (Wyle Electronics) in Phoenix, Arizona, and in 1999 John moved to Mountain View, California where he worked for Nexus Technology.  For the next 5 years John worked in sales and assisted with design and development of applications including integrated circuits.

In 2004 John accepted a position as sales manager reporting directly to the vice-president of operations with Prediwave in Fremont, California.  After a year with Prediwave John went to work for TAARCOM in Mountain View, California as a manufacturer’s representative and sales engineer. In 2008 John accepted a position as regional sales manager for the northwest at Bourns, Inc. where he managed personnel and provided technical support.  In 2011 he moved on to Kashiyama USA in Fremont, California as their sales manager for North America.  During the next 4 years John manage all sales activities, calling on semiconductor and foundry companies throughout North America.   He has been working for Epson where he manages sales throughout northern California and Nevada since 2015.  (Last Updated 1/30/17)


Andrew FingersonAndrew Fingerson

Andrew Fingerson, who graduated in 2005 with a BA in Economics and minors in Business Administration and Communication Design, works in sales at Platt in Grass Valley, California.  During his first semester as a senior at Chico State Andrew studied economics and business at the Hogeschool voor Economische Studies in Amsterdam as part of Chico State’s Study Abroad program. During the last semester of his senior year Andrew interned at the Center for Economic Development.  

After graduation Andrew worked as a loan officer for Avalon Mortgage Company in 2006 and as a loan officer for First National Mortgage Sources in 2007 when he moved on to a sales position at Rexel, and electrical supply company in Grass Valley.  After 6 years with Rexel, Andrew took a job in counter sales at Platt where he is currently working.  (Last revised 10/6/16)

Mark Fisher, who graduated in 2001 with a BA in Economics, is senior sales consultant at ABM Electrical and Lighting Solutions in Pleasanton, California. 

In 2004 Mark joined ABM Industries as an energy consultant and senior sales representative.  In late 2008 he moved on to Osram Sylvania as their executive account representative.  After almost 4 years with Sylvania, Mark went to work for ABM Electrical and Lighting where he is currently employed.


Matthew FurtadoMatthew Furtado

Matthew Furtado, who graduated with a BA in Economics and a BS in Business Administration in 2015, is a sales consultant for the San Francisco Giants. Matthew began working for the Tea Bar and Fusion Café while a student at Chico State. He completed an internship with the Tea Bar, and after he graduated Matthew continued working as their manager and supervisor. At the end of 2015 he left Tea Bar to accept a sales position with the Giants.


haugenJack Shea Haugen

Jack Shea Haugen, who graduated in 2013 with a BA in Economics with Honors, is an assistant buyer at Adidas Group in Portland Organ.  He transferred from Cuesta College to Chico State in 2011.  While a student at Chico State Jack was an economics tutor and a research assistant at the Center for Economic Development.  He also found time to participate in the Model United Nations and the Economics Club

After graduation at Chico State Jack went to work for Centrally Grown in Cambria, California.   In 2014 he became a Pamplin Fellow working in the  “Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Innovation running day to day operations, developing marketing materials, conducting competitive analysis, and organizing center events,” according to his LinkedIn page.  Jack began his MBA at the University of Portland.  While pursuing his graduate degree Jack also worked as a business analyst for Coraggio Group, a consulting firm in Portland.  During 2015 Jack became an Associate at Portland Seed Fund.


Hide HildebrandHale Hildebrand

Hale Hildebrand, who graduated in 2015 with a BA in Economics, is a medical device sales representative at Hayes Solutions Alliance Corporation in Sacramento, California.  Hale transferred to Chico State in 2009 after a year at Sacramento State where he was an engineering major studying computer aided design.  While at Sacramento State Hale was a teaching assistant at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, and he participated in the Run to Feed the Hungry.

At Chico State Hale studied international economics with an emphasis on developing countries and foreign languages.  During his first year as an undergraduate at Chico State Hale joined Delta Sigma Pi-Epsilon, the professional business fraternity, where he assumed leadership positions including fundraising director, treasurer, and vice president of community service.  During his senior year Hale volunteered for the Special Olympics of Butte, Yuba, Sutter, and El Dorado counties, assisting participants with special needs. 

While a student at Chico State, Hale helped support himself by working as a repair crew manager for TNT Fireworks, a construction assistant for GSL Construction, a resident advisor for Sequoia Equities, Inc., and a sales associate at Bed, Bath and Beyond.  After graduation Hale went to work for Hayes Solutions Alliance where he is a medical device sales representative.


Dylan HodgsonDylan Hodgson

Dylan Hodgson, who graduated with a BA in Economics in 2014, is a marketing representative at Philadelphia Insurance in Roseville, California. While a student at Chico State Dylan supported himself as a sales associate at Lowe’s and he found time to be active in the Economics Club and inter-mural basketball. After graduation Dylan accepted a job as a financial representative for Northwestern Mutual, and from there he moved on to Philadelphia Insurance where he is currently working.


Ignacio JacobsIgnacio Cerruto-Jacobs

Ignacio Cerruto-Jacobs, who graduated with a BA in Economics in 2013, is director of the textile rental division at Sobel Westex in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He also works as a linguist for >Metlang, who provide interpretation and translation services for law enforcement.  (Last Updated 9/12/17)


Bruce JohnsonBruce Johnson

Bruce Johnson, who graduated with a BA in Economics and a minor in Marketing in 1978 has for many years worked for cyber security companies. He is currently vice president of global sales at Vaultive, a cloud data security focused company, based in Boston, Massachusetts. He was vice president of worldwide sales and business development for Vormetric in San Jose, California, from 2003 to 2014. Vormetric had a successful outcome and was acquired in 2016 by Thales. Prior to Vormetric Bruce held multiple sales leadership positions with leading cyber security companies many of whom were also acquired by leading companies like Symantec and Computer Associates.

Bruce believes that his economics and marketing educational background from Chico State uniquely qualified him for the sales and sales leadership positions he has held over the last 30 years. Understanding the fundamentals of economics can enable you to see the strategic and tactical sides of business and make good decisions.


andrewmckayAndrew McKay

Andrew McKay, who completed his BA in Economics with honors in 2010, is a sales representative at Anaplan in the San Francisco Bay Area. While a student at Chico Andrew was treasurer and fund raising chair during his sophomore year, vice-president during his junior year and president of the Economics Club during his senior years. He also served as student ambassador to the Dean of Behavioral and Social Sciences and he was a member of Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society. Since 2006 Andrew has been a member of the San Francisco SurfRider Foundation , an organization dedicated to protecting oceans and beaches. He joined the San Francisco Young Executive Council in 2014 and Andrew is a sponsorship co-chair.

During his sophomore year Andrew began supporting himself as a self-employed economics tutor helping students with statistics, calculus as well as most economics courses. He also assisted student who needed help with writing assignments and instructors who needed help with introductory economics.

After graduation Andrew accepted a job as project manager for Green Swan in Novato, California, where he led a team effort to fabricate patent designs, organize trade shows, research markets, and launch products. After almost a year and one-half at Green Swan, Andrew moved on to Prudential Financial where he worked as a financial professional associate and in 2013 he got a job as a financial services representative with MassMutual Financial Group, both firms located in the Bay Area.

In 2014 Andrew accepted a job as a platform specialist with SalesForce in San Francisco “helping customers turn ideas into apps via the Salesforce1 platform,” according to his LinkedIn page. Since 2015 Andrew has been in sales with Anaplan.


MacNeilAndrew MacNeil

Andrew MacNeil completed his BA in Economics with California State University- Chico in 2008, and currently works as Business Development Manager at Amazon in Seattle, Washington. Before entering Chico State in 2004, Andrew enlisted in the US Army following high school graduation. While at Chico State from 2004 to 2008, Andrew continued to serve as a reservist in the US Army, deploying to Iraq from 2004 to 2006. After graduation at Chico, Andrew commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and served as an Intelligence Officer from 2009 through 2012 deploying to Southeast Asia to assist in the region’s counterinsurgency mission. In 2012, he was selected for US Army Special Forces training, which he subsequently completed in 2014, earning the coveted Green Beret. As a Captain, Andrew deployed to Afghanistan in 2015, where he served as a Special Forces Detachment Commander until 2016. While he begins his transition to Amazon, Andrew is also currently completing his Executive MBA in Management with the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business.


Katty PitcherKatherine “Katie” Pitcher

Katherine “Katie” Pitcher, who graduated in 2015 with a BA in Economics, works in the membership development and sales campaign with the Sacramento Kings. While a student at Chico State Katie interned with the Oroville Economic Development Corporation.  “I was very happy to have that opportunity, as I think it has helped open doors with my career,” Katie stated in a recent email.  During her senior year she also interned with Professor Pete Tsournos and Professor Anita Chaudhry in their Sacramento River Survey for the California Department of Water Resources.  (Last revised 10/6/16)

After graduation Katie accepted an internship position with the Sacramento River Cats in their corporate partnerships department that required her to use her economics background, particularly her experience with econometrics, to analyze data and statistical trends of sponsors of the River Cats. “I dealt with corporate partners of the team and worked with them to discuss options for marketing around the ballpark. I built proposals for these partners using the data analysis and statistics that I had gathered, and put everything together into a report that I would present to the each partner.”

After the internship with the River Cats ended, she accepted a position with the Sacramento Kings in their membership development and sales campaign department.  She works closely with season ticket holders and helps plan, budget, and organize events designed to increase ticket sales.  “In order to plan a successful and meaningful event, I use statistical programs to gauge the average Sacramento resident's interest in the Sacramento Kings, and use this knowledge to better market to our clients.”  (Last revised 10/6/16)


Tom SackmanTom Sackman

Tom Sackman, who graduated in 2012 as the International Economics Student of the Year is a real estate assistant for Joan Gordon and David Cohen at Hill and Company in San Francisco, California.  Tom transferred from Santa Barbara City College  with an AA in Liberal Arts and Sciences to Chico State in 2010.  During spring 2012 Tom participated in Study Abroad in India where he taught English to children at the Snhyeedan Orphanage and assisted with recycling at Christ College in Bangalore .  

During the summer of 2012 Tom worked as an equities research intern for DB Fitzpatrick Investments in Boise, Idaho.  In the fall he entered graduate school at the University of San Francisco. While earning his MS Tom worked in the Solomon Islands Rural Development Program as an evaluator from January 2013 to August 2013.   He also worked as a research assistant to the World Bank in the Solomon Islands during the summer of 2013. For his master’s thesis Tom evaluated the impacts of water projects on rural village life in the Solomon Islands.  Tom earned his MS in International and Development Economics at USF in 2014.

After receiving his MS Tom worked in sales for almost a year with BrightCurrent Solar and almost 2 years with NRG Home Solar in San Francisco.  He worked briefly with Sunrun before going to work in May 2016 with Hill and Company where he currently works.   


Justin SelfJustin Self

Justin Self, who completed his BA in Economics with honors in the major and honors in general education in 2011, is a sales executive and small business specialist at ADP in Sacramento, California.  He manages a team of about 10 employees that helps ADP provide human resource (HR) services to small businesses.   

In the summer before he began his studies at Chico State Justin founded a small video production company, Live Motion Media that he continued to manage as an undergraduate in order to help finance his college education.  During the summer before his sophomore year Justin also worked long hours for Enterprise Rent-A-Car where he cleaned and dropped off cars for customers.

While an honors student at Chico State Justin also found time to be chapter president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, a professional fraternity for business and economics students.  He also participated in St. Jude Children’s Hospital Up ‘til Dawn fundraiser, the Model United Nations, the Greeks Going Green and the Economics Club.

Erik Staley, who graduated in 2002 with a BA in Economics and a BS in Management Information Systems, is a senior sales engineer in San Francisco, California with Varonis, a firm in San Francisco, California, that provides data security.  “I am very experienced at analyzing complex issues facing my customers, discerning their true needs and then developing, pitching and implementing a solution that will solve the complex IT issues they are facing, Erik states on his LinkedIn page. 

After graduation Erik took a job providing IT support with Cyberdoc PTS in Lafayette, California. Two and one-half years later Erik moved on to ProNet Solutions, a web hosting service, as a consulting engineer.  In 2006 Erik took a job as customer engineer for Internal Solution.  In 2007 he moved on to Applied Computer Solutions in Pleasanton, California to accept a job as system as sales engineer, providing technical support to customers and sales representatives for over 3 years. In 2010 he also accepted a job with Zetta, Inc., a firm that provides cloud-based data protection, in Sunnyvale, California as senior sales engineer.  After almost 7 years with Zetta Erik accepted a job with Varonis where he currently works. TurtletaubReuben Turtletaub

Reuben Turtletaub, who graduated with a BA in Economics and a minor in Business in 2008, is a sales representative for California Lighting, a manufacture representative's agency in Los Angeles, California. After graduation from Chico, Reuben went to work for California Lighting where he is currently employed. He "designs, negotiates and manages lighting packages for medium to large scale commercial construction projects," according to his LinkedIn page.
