About the Program

The Library Media Teacher Services Credential program at CSU, Chico uses innovative methods to help candidates obtain the California Library Media Teacher credential. Its focus is on skills and knowledge related to the integration of the library media program into the K-12 curriculum. A special consideration is on the application of computer-based technology in school library media centers. The majority of the classes are offered during the evening and weekends, or via the Internet to accommodate working students. This credential program consists of 27 semester units.

  • Each candidate’s completed course work and competencies are individually assessed.
  • The units earned may be transferable to accredited graduate schools of library and information science.
  • Courses in this program are open to all interested persons (including basic credential candidates and undergraduates).
  • Courses in this program can also prepare students to become paraprofessionals in various libraries.
  • A Master of Arts in Education in the Curriculum & Instruction option can be earned concurrently with most library media teacher units applying to the degree.
