Phi Delta Kappa - PDK is a dedicated advocate for the public schools, maintains an extensive network of more than 650 PDK chapters in the United States, Canada, and nations in Europe and Asia. The association publishes the Phi Delta Kappan, the most cited education journal in the United States, and sponsors the annual Phi Delta Kappa/Gallup Poll of the Public’s Attitudes Toward the Public Schools.

MSTI - A collaboration between the Department of Education, the Center for Math and Science Education, and the Teacher Recruitment Program (TRP), called  the Mathematics and Science Teacher Initiative (MSTI) at California State University, Chico is focused on recruiting students to become math and science teachers. Opportunities for the Teacher Recruitment Project (TRP) Scholarships for future Math/Science teachers are now available. Awards up to $2000.00 possible.

APLE Program - Students interested in teaching mathematics or science have several special scholarship and loan programs available. The Assumption Program of Loans for Education (APLE) program, in particular, forgives as much as $19,000 in student loans to students who become California math and science teachers. The priority filing deadline for the 2006-07 APLE application has been set for January 25, 2008. Applications and program materials may be downloaded from the California Student Aid Commission website at www.csusuccess.org/aple.

RISE Library - The RISE Library is located in AJH 124 on the Chico State campus and is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30 pm. The library holds hundreds of books, teaching units, costumes, artifacts and realia to help teachers make their classrooms and teaching more alive and interesting. Library administrators have been conducting mini-workshops on using artifacts for education classes that have been well-received. They are also planning a mini-workshop on how to use short pieces of literature in group work. Teachers can sign up by emailing vsherm8919@aol.com or maureen1430@earthlink.net

NNER - The School of Education at Chico State is the newest member of the National Network for Educational Renewal (NNER). The organization seeks to "foster school and university partnerships engaged in the simultaneous renewal of schools and the education of those who work in them." Nationwide, the NNER's members include 24 partnership settings, with 44 institutions of higher education and approximately 150 school districts and 700 partner schools.

University Connection is a program offered as a joint venture between the Department of Education and several school districts in Butte and Glenn counties. Students in the program are co-enrolled at their local high schools and as students at the university.  This allows students to graduate high school with units accumulated toward a bachelor’s degree in a major of their choice.  The curricular focus of the program is Professional Education and students read, discuss, write and reflect on the opportunities and challenges of the world of the teacher.
