Professor of Education
Devon Metzger is a professor of education in the Department of Education at California State University, Chico. He earned his doctorate at Indiana University in 1977, taught at the University of New Orleans for nine years, and joined the CSU, Chico faculty in 1986. Dr. Metzger coordinates the placement of Multiple Subject students in field experiences, teaches social studies education courses in the credential program and seminars in the graduate program.

Devon Metzger's primary academic interest is the education of citizens for a democratic society. While social studies education is his specific area of expertise, he views the general educational enterprise as necessarily centered on education for democratic citizenship. Therefore, teaching and research interests include such topics as democratic schools and democratic classrooms, values education, civic competencies, children and choices, and the importance of teaching multiple perspectives.
