Academic Advising Programs Hires Hall as a New Academic Advisor

Shannon Hall is a new academic advisor in the Academic Advising Programs (AAP) office, but she is not new to California State University, Chico or working in a student services office.

Hall started her student services career as a peer advisor and co-director for Chico State’s Summer Orientation (SUMO) program in 2003. She also worked on campus as a student assistant in AAP, the Office of the Registrar, and the Communications Department as a teaching associate.

She graduated from Chico State in 2005 with a degree in organizational communication and a minor in business. She continued on to complete her master’s in communication studies in 2007 and is proud to be Chico State alumna.

In memory of Hall’s father, who was an avid Oakland Raiders fan, Christopher proposed in 2009 at an Oakland Raiders football game. She, of course, said yes.

Christopher is also a Chico State alum! He graduated with his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology coaching and went on to earn his master’s degree at California State University, Fresno, in sport psychology.

After college, the couple moved to Sacramento where Hall went to work in the Office of Admissions at California State University, Sacramento. There, Hall served as an admissions counselor and Christopher served as the head men’s golf coach.

In 2008, Hall went to work for Fresno State as an athletic academic advisor, where she served over 500 student athletes. She then returned to Sacramento State in 2010 and specifically served as the admissions counselor/academic advisor and NCAA initial eligibility coordinator for all incoming Division I student-athletes for five years.

It was good fortune, both for the family and AAP, that the academic advising position opened up.

Photo of Hall familyThe Hall family is thoroughly enjoying their home in north Chico. They spend a lot of time with their two dogs and four chickens on their acre and a half lot. On the weekends, you will find the family picnicking in Bidwell Park, playing at Caper Acres, or enjoying one of the amazing eateries in downtown Chico.

Stop in and welcome Hall to campus when you have a moment. You will be glad you did.
