More Admissions Staff Changes

The Office of Admissions has had a few more staffing changes this semester. In December 2015, Beth Brogden, the office coordinator for over 15 years, retired. Brogden held numerous positions across campus in her 34 years of employment at Chico State, including in the Budget Office, Procurement, Communication Arts and Science, Industrial Technology, and more.

A new office coordinator, Gudrun Snyder, was hired in February. Snyder arrived on campus in July 2014 and had previously worked in the Office of the Provost and Faculty Affairs.Photo of Gudrun Snyder

Born and raised in Waldmohr, Germany, Snyder earned a paralegal degree at a business college in Saarbrucken, Germany, before going to work for a law firm in Homburg, Germany. There, she assisted with criminal, immigration, and civil cases.

In 1981, Snyder was offered a civilian position working for the Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany—the largest military hospital outside the United States. She worked as an accounting analyst in the Seventh Finance and Accounting Division managing million dollar contracts for medical supplies.

She then successfully applied for and was awarded a position in the Plans, Operations, and Training Division for Headquarters department. Her main responsibility was to oversee the skill qualification and common task training for all enlisted personnel and officers assigned to the medical center and outlying clinics.

Snyder enjoyed several years of being a “stay-at-home mom.” She also broadened her understanding of various cultures during that time through interactions with a large variety of individuals of European descent who resided near the family in Staten Island.

She is proud of her son, who graduated in 2011 from ITT Technical Institute with a major in internet security and is currently working for Cambria Solutions in Sacramento. The family has been busy preparing for Michael’s wedding on April 25.

In 1991, the family moved to Sacramento to be closer to her husband’s family. Snyder continued being a full-time mom for a few more years before returning to the work force. She started out working part time for H&R Block but after a few years was ready to get back to working full time.

Snyder went to work for the City of Sacramento in 1999 as an administrative technician. Her duties included successfully collecting over $25 million from multiple state and federal agencies for various grant-related projects, managing start-up grants valued at $500,000 for two non-profit organizations, and managing $20 million in annual donations. After 13 years, she decided it was time for a change and moved to Magalia. Her job search was successful when she started working at Chico State in 2014.

She also spends time gardening, reading, has a love for crafts and home improvement projects, but is always willing to put those aside to relax with the family and pets or watch a good movie.

Stop by the Office of Admissions and welcome Snyder. She might be able to give you some good advice on places to check out in Sacramento.
