Collaborative Response to Violence Project
The Collaborative Response to Violence Project (CRVP) is a community-wide effort to reduce violence against women, specifically women who attend Butte County Community College and CSU, Chico. While there are services in place for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, CRVP is a means to coordinate the large variety of parties interested in reducing violence in our community. One of the major components of CRVP is prevention education for all new students. We are beginning this part of the project in Fall 2007 by requiring all ENGL 130 Academic Writing students to attend a one hour violence prevention training. Future components of the program include training area law enforcement officers on the dynamics of these crimes and creating the Safe Place offices on both the Butte County Community College campus and Chico State campus, which will be a place that students can go for assistance and information. In addition to the myriad of campus faculty and staff involved in this project, community non-profits Catalyst Domestic Violence Services and Rape Crisis as well as both university police departments, City of Chico Police Department, Butte County Sheriff’s Department, and the Oroville Police department are also partners in CRVP.
Writing became such a process of discovery that I couldn't wait to get to work in the morning: I wanted to know what I was going to say. "
