Project Proposal
The Internship in the Literary Arts affords students the
opportunity to design a project which brings literary arts into the community in such
venues as libraries, senior centers, community centers, community theaters, and public
schoolsin short, outside the University setting. The partnership it forges is
threefold: student, faculty mentor, and community liaison at the site of the project. The
faculty mentor will supervise the student via regularly scheduled meetings.
The student should write a proposal for the project outlining
particulars: site(s), events, dates, goals, community liaison, and method of evaluating
outcomes. This proposal should require 45 hours of time per unit: the equivalent of 90
hours total for the duration of the two-unit internship. The internship may take
place during any time period, as long as the total number of hours is satisfied. The
proposal should be submitted in writing to the students program adviser and faculty
mentor, who will both sign off on it. This process may take place over email. The
student will forward a copy of the proposal and written approvals to Colleen Kummer at Regional and Continuing Education at CSU, Chico
so that the course can be officially set up. If students have any specific questions
regarding the internship they wish to create, they should consult with their MFA adviser.
