Course Cost & Refund Policy

triangle.gif (822 bytes) The final deadline to register without payment of late fees has been extended to June 4.  Registration can occur after June 4 on a space-available basis with payment of $10 late fee. Qualified non-MFA students may enroll on a space-available basis with instructor permission after June 4.

triangle.gif (822 bytes) The MFA in Creative Writing is designed as a self-support program. As such, the per-unit fees paid by participating students will underwrite the cost of the program. While admitted students are eligible to enroll in state-support courses, the internship and creative project courses must be done through special sessions at a cost of $220 per unit.

triangle.gif (822 bytes) Course fees will be $220 per semester unit.

All degree requirements are expressed in semester units. Units earned through consortium campuses operating on a quarter system will be converted at the standard of one quarter unit equivalent to two-thirds semester units.

1 Quarter Unit = .67 Semester Unit
2 Quarter Units = 1.33 Semester Units
3 Quarter Units = 2 Semester Units
4 Quarter Units = 2.67 Semester Units
5 Quarter Units = 3.33 Semester Units
6 Quarter Units = 4 Semester Units

triangle.gif (822 bytes) Financial Aid
CSU, Chico Financial Aid Office 530-898-6451.

Financial Aid, primarily in the form of Stafford loans, will be possible for eligible MFA students. As lead campus, CSU, Chico will process all financial aid applications. Students may use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid on the Web to submit the application over the Internet. (FAFSA). For more information on the Financial Aid application process, and variety of ways to obtain an application, visit our Web page http://www.csuchico.edu/fa/home/app/app.html#how   Each summer residency is considered a "trailer" to the preceding academic year for the financial aid award year, e.g., the 2002 summer residency is part of the 2001-2002 award year. Please be sure to submit the appropriate year's FAFSA for the summer residency in which you intend to enroll. The Chico Financial Aid Office will determine eligibility and the Financial Aid Business Office will disburse funds to MFA students receiving awards.

As soon as a preliminary financial aid award is established, students will be mailed a packet of information notifying them of their award and providing complete instructions for receiving aid. Included in the packet will be a Computation Sheet, an Offer of Financial Aid Guide, and a Response to Financial Aid Offer form. Mandatory counseling of FA recipients is available through the FA Web site at http://www.csuchico.edu/fa/home/index.html.   Funds may be disbursed in person to students or mailed to the address designated by the student for financial aid.

Students cannot receive financial aid from more than one school per academic term. Financial aid recipients intending to enroll in a state-support term at a campus other than Chico will need to coordinate their enrollment as a visitor with the Chico Financial Aid Office.
