I have been a professor of English and Creative Writing at California State University at Chico (CSUC) since 1972. I teach playwriting, a "page to stage" performance class, drama courses, Native-American literature, Humanities, and Celtic Literature. I received two N.E.H. grants to produce educational television programs (Passages: Self Discovery Through the Humanities). I also was the recipient of a grant from a national Welsh-American organization. I have received many academic awards: two "Meritorious Performance Awards"; two "Professional Achievement Awards"; four "Summer Scholar Awards"; and, "Outstanding Teacher." While on sabbatical I participated in the graduate screenwriting program at the University of California, Los Angeles. To date I have written 11 plays, 3 screenplays, a children's novel, two prose pieces and several academic articles. A recent prose piece, "Another Child's Christmas in Wales," was developed into "chamber theatre," performed at CSUC and is currently being published and represented by Cymdeithas Ddrama Cymru (the Drama Society of Wales). I am the winner of four national playwriting competitions; a finalist in the Eugene O'Neill playwriting competition, the Sundance Institute's screenwriting laboratory and in Pen Center, USA West playwriting award. |
