Steven Marx teaches Environmental Literature, Shakespeare, The Bible as Literature, and Ethnic Literature at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  He is the author of two books, Shakespeare and the Bible (Oxford University Press 2000) and Youth Against Age: Generational Strife in Renaissance Poetry (Peter Lang, 1984), a study of the pastoral.  This book and a number of his articles about nature and the environment can be accessed on his Web site, http://cla.calpoly.edu/~smarx.   He lived with his family in the wilderness of British Columbia from 1970 to 1979.   He is the organizer of a project called Cal Poly Land-- an interdisciplinary seminar of faculty who are creating a Web site, a book, and an undergraduate course about the land that belongs to the university.
