Educational Opportunity Program

Admissions FAQ's

Q:

If I am an EOPS participant at my community college, will I automatically be admitted through EOP?

A:

Not necessarily. Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS) and the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) are two separate programs with different admissions criteria. Although many EOPS students meet EOP admission criteria, there are some who will not because they have not been historically, economically, or educationally disadvantaged.

Q:

Do I have to give my parents' income if I have been living apart from them for many years?

A:

Yes. The parental income information is used to help establish a family history of disadvantage.

Q:

Does Part 2, the Recommendation/Nomination Form, of the EOP application have to be filled out by a teacher or counselor?

A:

Yes. We need someone who has first-hand knowledge of your academic achievement and potential.

Q:

What are the eligibility requirements for the Educational Opportunity Program?

A:

EOP applicants must be California residents and meet the low-income guidelines listed on page 3 of the EOP application booklet and demonstrate that their family has a history of being both educationally and economically disadvantaged. Typically, the parents of EOP students are not college graduates. In addition, EOP applicants must demonstrate the academic potential and motivation to succeed in college.

Q:

How will I benefit from being admitted through EOP?

A:

EOP provides orientations to help you learn about campus resources and services. While you are enrolled you will be eligible to receive counseling, tutoring, and advising services. The best part is that EOP provides you with a family-like atmosphere to help you during your college experience.

Q:

How is the decision made regarding my EOP admission status?

A:

Your completed EOP file will be reviewed by a campus committee consisting of representatives from the Admissions, Financial Aid, and EOP offices. With input from the committee, the EOP office will make the final decision.

Q:

Can I send photocopies of my EOP application?

A:

Yes. We understand that some students will be applying to multiple campuses.

Q:

Can I send the four parts of the EOP application in separately?

A:

Yes, but we require that your application be completed within 60 days of our office receiving notification that you are interested in being admitted through EOP.
