Loan Forgiveness Programs

Graduates of Chico State may be eligible for loan forgiveness programs, under which a part of your student debt may be forgiven for participation in designated professions.

State Nursing Assumption Program

The new State Nursing Assumption Program of Loans for Education (SNAPLE) may assist nursing students who become nursing instructors at a California college. Detailed information is available through the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC).

Federal Loan Forgiveness for Teachers

Partial federal loan forgiveness is available for designated teachers. Information on the two types of loan forgiveness programs for teachers is available through Federal Student Aid(opens in new window), a site maintained by the U.S. Department of Education. 

Federal Loan Forgiveness for Public Service Employees

Under this program, borrowers may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance due on their eligible federal student loans after they have made 120 payments on those loans under certain repayment plans while employed full time by certain public service employers. Information on loan forgiveness for public service employees may be obtained through Federal Student Aid(opens in new window), a site maintained by the U.S. Department of Education. 

Perkins Loan Forgiveness

Perkins loan recipients may take advantage of a number of provisions for loan forgiveness for employment in certain fields, including law enforcement, teaching in low-income schools, nursing, VISTA or Peace Corps volunteer service, or U.S. Armed Forces service in hostile areas. AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps awards may be used to repay student loans. More information is available at the AmeriCorps website and at Teach for America.
