Online Scholarship Application CSU, Chico
The scholarship application for California State University, Chico is open for 2010-2011. Scholarship recipients are selected in the spring for the following academic year. In order to be considered for 2010-2011, applications must be received by December 15, 2009 midnight Pacific Standard Time.
The CSU, Chico scholarship application is composed of two parts:
- The online application that is submitted by the student, and
- The online letter of recommendation that is submitted directly by the faculty member, advisor, teacher, or counselor after the student has contacted them and requested it.
Eligibility
Applicants must be enrolled at CSU, Chico or must be regularly eligible for admission. New applicants to the University must have an admission application on file. Students enrolled only through Regional & Continuing Education’s Open University are not eligible. All scholarships require that the recipients maintain full-time enrollment (12 units undergraduates and credential; 8 units graduates). All scholarships also require a minimum 2.00 GPA and many require a GPA of 3.00 or higher.
Need-Based Scholarships
Some scholarships require that recipients demonstrate financial need. In order to be considered for need-based scholarships, you must also file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) no later than March 2, 2010 for the 2010-2011 academic year. If you are selected as a recipient of a need-based scholarship, your need will be verified prior to any funds being disbursed.

Students will need the following information to successfully complete and submit a CSU, Chico Scholarship application. Click on the appropriate Scholarship Application link, below.
- Your Chico State ID: For new applicants, this number will be assigned to you after you submit your application for admission to CSU, Chico.
- Transcripts: Only undergraduate transfers or graduate students new to CSU, Chico for Fall 2010 must submit transcripts to the Office of Admissions or Graduate School no later than December 15, 2009 to be considered for scholarships. Currently enrolled CSU, Chico students and first-time freshmen applying for Fall 2010 admission do not need to submit transcripts.
- Your written statement: This is the majority of the online application. You will be prompted to answer a series of questions. Applications without responses are not complete and will not be considered for scholarships.
- Online Letter of Recommendation. See below.
- Change for 2010-2011: Students with majors in the College of Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management must submit a letter of recommendation. The College of Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management now REQUIRES a letter of recommendation.
- Please note: For the School of the Arts, which includes Music, Theater, and Musical Theater majors, auditions take the place of a letter of recommendation.
- Additional Requirements as needed: Some majors require supplemental application materials. If your major is on the list below, please contact the major department directly to obtain the supplemental application. If your major is not included on the list, there are no additional requirements. All supplemental materials are to be submitted directly to the appropriate department.

At least one letter of recommendation must be submitted in addition to the online portion of the CSU, Chico scholarship application in order for you to be considered for a scholarship. The letter must be a reflection of your current academic abilities. Please submit a total of no more than two letters.
How to Ask for a Recommendation:
- You must provide your recommender(s) with your full name, Chico State ID, and this Web page address for their online submission of your letter.
- Ask someone who knows you well and can write about your academic potential, your career goals, your volunteer and organizational commitments, etc. A recommender could be a faculty member or teacher, a counselor, an advisor, an employer, or an organizational leader. They should have direct contact with you.
- Be considerate. Don't wait until the last minute to ask for a letter. Ideally, students should contact possible recommenders as soon as the application opens on October 1.
- Provide the recommender with a resume or a list of accomplishments, activities and goals, and an unofficial academic transcript, to assist in the preparation of the letter.
- Verify with the recommender that they have submitted a letter on your behalf.

- How long have you known the applicant and under what circumstances have you become familiar with the applicant's academic abilities?
- Please assess the applicant's exceptional achievements and ability to contribute to the University's learning environment.
- Indicate the applicant's potential for success, leadership skills and specific areas of interest.
- Describe adverse circumstances the student has had to overcome to achieve success.
- How would you rate the applicant's motivation and initiative in pursuing academic and career goals?

How Recipients Are Notified
2010-2011 CSU, Chico scholarship recipients will be notified in summer 2010 via e-mail, with instructions to accept or decline the scholarship offer. Recipients should view instructions on finalizing their awards and tips for writing thank you letters.
