The Filipino American Student Organization, also known as FASO
The primary purpose of FASO is to establish an organization in which Filipino-Americans can affiliate with one another and educate others about the Filipino Culture through community involvement and campus events.
A. Any person interested in the purpose of this organization shale be eligible for membership, however:
1. Voting privileges shall be granted only to currently enrolled CSUC students.
2. All members shall pay $5.00 dues per semester, which will go into the general funds account.
3. All other persons who do not meet specified requirements should be considered associate members. They may attend all meetings, participate in discussions, make motions and partake in events.
B. Responsibilities of all members shall incude the following:
1. Participate in at least one fund-raiser each semester.
2. Adherence to organizational policies and practices.
3. It is required that each officer attends all meetings and remains until adjourned. Excusable reasons for non-attendance is class, work, or illness. Absences must be stated prior to the meeting. unexcused absences are grounds for impeachment.
C. If a member breaks the Student Organizational Policies or University Policies, his/her membership shall be suspended until further investigation by officers.
A. Elections and Removal of Officers
1. Officers shall be selected by a simple majority vote of the total voting membership. The voting will be based on candidates platforms, and experience. Elections shall be held within the moth of April. Officers shall serve for one calendar year starting Fall Semester.
From the election period to the end of the school year, the newly elected officers must shadow the current officers to ensure a smooth transition
2. Officers may be removed by a 2/3-majority vote by the total voting membership. Removal is only applicable if the officer is not performing satisfactory.
3. Replacement of any officer will be conducted by special election.
B. Criteria for Officers
1. Must be in good academic standing with the University.
2. Must have been a full member for at least one semester.
3. Must be a currently enrolled CSUC student.
4. Officers must be able to attend all meetings and perform all duties. Failure to adhere to duties amd meetings is cause for removal.
C. Duties and Responsibilities: There shall be seven officers who comprise the executive comittee of the organization.
President shall preside at all meetings of the organization, shall represent FASO whenever necessary, and shall convene the Executive Committee at least twice a month. He/She shall oversee all committees. He/She will keep a record of all inventories and maintain physical custody. He/She must always act for the benifit of FASO.
Vice President shall assume the duties of President in his/her absense. S/He shall serve as a member of all Adhoc committees.
Secretary shall keep minutes of all regular and executive meetings, shall be responsible for general clerical duties, and all communication within organization.
Treasurer shall collect dues and expend funds at the direction of officers and/or membership. Treasurer shall maintain required book keeping. Treasurer shall also be part of any fund-raiser committee.
Public Relations shall handle publicity (i.e. flyers, announcements, etc.) invite, and organize prospective speakers. Additional duties may be delegated as needed. Public Relations person shall work with all committees regarding external communication.
Social Chairman shall be in charge of all internal social events, networking with other organizations and be a part of the recruitment committee.
Historian shall be in charge of documenting events and activities. S/He will also be guardian of any documents, photo album, etc. S/He shall assist in any educational committees.
Webmaster shall maintain/update the FASO website along with all other Internet accounts regarding FASO. This position must work closely with all FASO officers and committees.
D. Adhoc committees will be establishe as needed by simple majority vote. Each committee chairperson shall be elected by FASO officers. All Adhoc committees must submit an itemized budget proposal to executive body one week prior to requesting funds.
A. Meetings shall be held ever week unless otherwise stated through email or the previous meeting.
B. Executive Committee meetings shall be held prior to general meetings.
C. Appointed committee meetings shall meet as needed and report all activities to the next general meeting of FASO.
D. Special meetings may be called at the request of simple majority vote of officers.
The general process for decision making shall be by simple majority of those voting members present at the scheduled meeting. This decision process includes the following areas:
1. Expenditure of funds.
2. Use of organizational owned equipment.
3. Approving of upcoming events.
A faculty/staff advisor, as specified by the University, shall be selected and removed by a simple majority of the voting membership; length of term for advisor(s) is subject to change. new advisor(s) will be selected as needed.
This constitution may be amended by a 2/3 vote of the total voting membership.
If the organization ceases to exist, for whatever reason, the Executive Committee will disperse all assets to current and active members of FASO. Unwanted equipment will be donated to another club affiliate.
Bylaws may be enacted as necessary.
A. Bylaws may be initiated by any regular voting member
B. Bylaws must be passed by a 3/4 vote of the voting quorum one week after the presentation of the new bylaw.
