University Center Landscape Project

Chico State is enhancing our open space with the University Center Landscape Project. The landscape area by Selvester’s Café will consist of the landscaping and redevelopment of three (3) adjacent areas at the center of campus totaling approximately 33,300 square feet.
The first area, approximately 13,100 square feet, occurs between Selvester’s Café and Colusa Hall. This area will be developed with decorative paving and raised planters with concrete seat walls. The raised planters will be located around the perimeter of the space adjacent to Colusa Hall and Selvester’s Café. A shade structure/trellis with vines will provide shading for the redeveloped courtyard space.
The second area, approximately 12,200 square feet, between Colusa Hall, Selvester’s Café, and the Continuing Education building. The fire access path will be maintained and a hammer head turn will be provided at the end of it. The loading dock area at Selvester's will be enclosed with a concrete masonry unit (CMU) wall and metal gates. The three (3) trash dumpsters will be relocated within this CMU enclosure. This second area is immediately adjacent Big Chico Creek.
The third area, approximately 8,000 square feet is immediately south of Big Chico Creek. A portion of the existing landscaping will be redeveloped into an educational garden with indigenous plants historically found adjacent to riparian areas for this geographical zone. The garden design has been the collaboration of campus faculty and departments and the Mechoopda Indian Tribe. All large growth trees will be maintained.
The University Center Landscape project will provide additional open space on campus and create an aesthetically pleasing area for students, faculty and staff to work and relax. This area will allow an additional venue for on-campus events.
