Dr. Eugenio N. Frongia
Professor Frongia is chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and Director of Italian Studies. Born in Sardinia, Italy, he earned a degree in Letters and Philosophy at the University in Rome before moving to the United States and earning a BA in English and MA in Philosophy and Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. As well, he holds a Ph.D. in Italian
from the University of California at Berkeley.

As a doctoral student, he taught at UC Berkeley and the College of Marin. As faculty, he taught at UCLA, the University of Utah and has been at CSU, Chico since 1988. He specialized in the Classical Tradition, Humanism and Renaissance. His teaching expertise encompasses the whole range of Italian Language, Literature, Culture and Cinema.

Besides the upper- and lower-division language classes, Prof. Frongia offers the following courses on a regular basis for General Education units, the Film Studies Minor and the Italian Minor:

-- Italian 140 - "The Journey of Our Life: Dante's Divine Comedy;"
-- Italian 160 (G.E.) - "Under the Sign of the Centaur: The Italian Renaissance and the making of modern Europe;"
-- Italian 120 - "Narratology: The Italian Fairy Tales;"
-- Italian 200A - "The Italian Cinema: Themes, Trends & Techniques;"
-- Italian 200B - "The Italian Cinema: The Great Directors."
-- Italian 210A - "Laughing Matters...: Italian Theatre from Commedia to Opera."
-- Italian 298C - "Italian American Studies"

Professor Frongia has published several books, anthologies, and scores of articles on several trends, periods and authors of Italian and Sardinian Literatures. He has also published in the area of Italian Cinema. During the summer, Professor Frongia leads a group of California students to Viareggio, Italy for the Italian Summer Program. Brunella Windsor
Born in Italy, Brunella Windsor received a Master's degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures with a Major in French from the University of Florence.

Professor Windsor (seated at the right) also obtained a Diploma in Piano Performance from the National Conservatory of Music of Florence. She taught both Music and French in the Italian School System for several years before coming to the United States in 1990. As a piano soloist, she has performed internationally.

The passion for language and music has inspired extensive travels in most of the European countries, including Russia, the Czech Republic and Hungary. She has also traveled to China and Egypt. She teaches Italian and French at CSU, Chico, where she is also pursuing a Master's degree in the Accompaniment Program in the Music Department. Franca Cavallaro

Born in Italy's beautiful seaport of Genoa, Franca Cavallaro received a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Genoa, where she also studied French. She later took a degree in Landscape Architecture in Milan and in Colorado before moving permanently to the United States. Prior to coming to Chico, she dedicated several years to marketing and international business development, and to the creation and launch of a computer tutorial in Italian.

Professor Cavallaro has traveled extensively, and has a deep passion for art and garden design. In her spare time she can often be found working/playing in her garden with her daughter April. You can contact her at fcavallaro@csuchico.edu.
