Main Campus Block Information

CSU, Chico has been accepted into the OBMC program, and has been placed in the non-essential load block # 9. The OBMC program will ensure that the main campus will stay on and not roll out during rotating outages. The OBMC program is the program that the University has been participating in for the past several months and includes campus non-essential load curtailment and central plant fan reduction.

The program works in the following way: CAISO notifies PG&E that there is not enough generation, and the OBMC must be called. PG&E notifies Facilities Management through phone page, phone call, e-mail, and fax. Upon notification, Facilities Management must drop load to the call of 5%, 10%, or 15%, within 15 minutes. Duration of the reduction is the length of time PG&E requires the event.

This program is designed to keep the main campus from experiencing rotating outages, however it will limit the central plant's ability to provide the accustomed level of cooling during the period of reduction.
