MOVING
SERVICES
Due to reductions in staff at FMS for the last two years, it has been necessary to redirect our labor force in order to maintain the buildings to meet fire codes and CalOSHA requirements. Staffing has been reduced in the moving area within FMS.
We will continue to provide:
§ Seating; chairs, TA’s, tables for instructional purposes, ie a room needs a table and chair for accessibility, or deliveries for classroom setups,
§ Drop offs of tables and chairs for events. Setups limited to approved events,
§ Pickup of shredding material,
§ Pickup and delivery of printed paper materials for instructional purposes, i.e. testing and student evaluation forms,
§ Larger equipment items delivered to Receiving and to be delivered to Campus,
§ Surplus items to be taken to property - Items that are too heavy (greater then 25 lbs) and all items with a State ID. See Procedure for Management of University Property.
§ Moves associated with a construction project (to be included as a cost to the project), and
§ Building lock and unlocks on weekends during the semester
All other move requests will be performed as staff are available and may take up to one month to provide.
DO NOT PLACE ITEMS FOR PICKUP IN HALLWAYS AS IT BLOCKS
EXITING REQUIREMENTS PER THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL.
We make the following recommendations for these other move requests:
§ Do not move the office furniture when changing offices. Only relocate your files, computer and personal items. We can then expedite this request.
§ Continue to contact the office furniture vendor such as Esplanade Furniture to assemble and disassemble partitions and other freestanding office furnishings. These requests do need to run through the Contracting and Facilities Management departments to coordinate Environmental Health & Safety and/or the State Fire Marshal for reviews and provide a contract or service agreement with the vendor.
§ Schedule all moves well in advance allowing at least three or four weeks.
§ Organize pickups and deliveries together rather then individual orders.
§ Departments can move small items (ie. less than 25 lbs) such as a box of files from one office to another within the same building.
§ Do not reorganize your office or department as a convenience.
§ Property inventory that is tagged should not be discarded directly by campus departments, but rather through the Property Management Office. For futher information, review the Policy for Management of University Property or contact the Property Managemet Office at ext. 6559.
Unfortunately, we can no longer provide the following services:
§
Moves
that require more than 1 person 8 hours to complete cannot be
accommodated. If, after reviewing the
request, the hours are estimated to be in excess of the maximum, FMS will
contact the department to discuss other options.
