FMS Employee receives 2016 Staff Safety Award

FMS employee Mike Baker receives 2016 Staff Safety Award.


It is the responsibility of each and every employee of the University to support safety by working safely, participating in safety training, and communicating ideas on how to improve safe work practices.

Each year an employee is chosen who reaches above and beyond those basic safety responsibilities to assist the Campus with providing a safe work environment.

California State University, Chico, is proud to announce the recipient of the 2016 Staff Safety Award is Mike Baker.  Mr. Baker was nominated for the Staff Safety Award for his continuous contribution to a safe work environment for staff, faculty, and students.

Mike directs the Moving Crew for Facilities Management and Services. Mr. Baker has been relentless in maintaining safety practices and procedures for the FMS Moving Crew. 

  • Mr. Baker conducts safety tailgate meetings for two full-time Movers and 4-6 Student Assistants, to discuss various topics such as safe lifting techniques, loading and moving of heavy equipment and furniture, and transporting heavy materials through Campus buildings and grounds. 
  • Mr. Baker encourages the Moving Crew to safely use hand trucks and dollies, proper use on the operation of the lift gate and forklift when moving heavy materials.  Mike is extremely focused on the safety of students and employees when driving the large moving truck through Campus.
  • For the past 10 years, Mike has made safety a priority.  His professional and dedicated approach to education, prevention, and awareness for student and employee safety.  Mike’s “Can Do” attitude and spirit of cooperation makes him an incredible asset to FMS and the Campus Community.

Mr. Baker has gone beyond his duties to create a safer environment at CSU, Chico.
