Mission Statement and Organization |
Chico State Friends of Animals (FOA) is a nonprofit group of CSU, Chico faculty and staff concerned about the welfare of animals. It provides financial assistance to those who adopt, find homes for, or otherwise help care for lost, injured, or homeless animals, especially those found on the CSUC campus. In an effort to reduce the number of homeless animals, FOA is particularly interested in providing assistance for vaccinations and spay/ neutering. FOA is made up of a board of directors with five voting members, a treasurer, and a general membership. The group shares information about animals in need and other animal-related information through the use of email. There is an annual meeting, held on campus at the beginning of the calendar year, during which the previous year's financial statement is presented by its treasurer and new board members are elected. Current board members are Susan Anderson (president), Jeanne Angle, Darlene Chester, Mary Molthen, Terryl Murphy, Sandy Jensen and Maria Olson. Our (non-voting board member) treasurer is Megan Rawie. All donations are tax-deductible, as allowed by law. Donations are used to directly benefit animals in need; FOA has NO operating expenses.

Our History |
FOA unofficially began in spring 1995 when a staff member discovered a homeless cat on campus and called on her "friends of animals" for assistance. One friend suggested a fund be started to assist people who are willing to help strays. FOA was officially launched in November 1995. In 1997, FOA was officially recognized as a faculty and staff organization and now roughly 125 members. From its inception in 1995 through current, FOA and its members have provided more than $20,000 in financial assistance to help individual animals and local nonprofit animal welfare groups.

Please Note!! |
Although some FOA members and other caring individuals have assisted in rescuing and placing strays, please understand that FRIENDS OF ANIMALS IS NOT A RESCUE GROUP, ANIMAL SHELTER, OR PLACEMENT SERVICE AND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PICKING UP ANIMALS FOUND ON CAMPUS OR ELSEWHERE.

How to Join and Make a Donation |
Members are asked to pay a minimum annual membership fee of $20. Please send your donations to FOA's treasurer, at campus zip 275. Make your check payable to "Friends of Animals," and write either "membership" or "donation" in the note section of the check. If paying in cash, please contact our treasurer. You will then be placed on FOA's email membership list. |
How to Contact FOA or Post a Message |
If you want to to send an animal alert message to FOA members, email Friends of Animals.
|
How to Request Financial Assistance |
To request financial assistance in caring for a lost, injured, or homeless animal, send an email to Friends of Animals a description of the situation and the amount you are requesting. A five-member advisory committee will review the request for assistance and determine whether assistance is approved. If approved, the amount approved may vary and a copy of the receipt(s) showing the expenses incurred is required prior to payment. Additionally, the advisory committee will determine whether payment will be made to the requestor or to the veterinary clinic where the expenses were incurred. |
