February 3, 2011

1. Minutes of December 9, 2010 meeting approved.

3. A motion to take the proposal to clarify guidelines for candidate ratings on performance reviews from the table was made and passed. (This proposal had been tabled at the Dec. 9. 2010 meeting in order that the committee could conduct further research.) Several committee members spoke to the proposal voicing opinions about the intent and need for changes to the rating system as defined in the FPPP. The question was called and the motion to approve as an action item failed.
4. A motion was made to consider a change to FPPP section 6.1.c.3.a to establish a requirement that department search committees include a faculty member who is external to the department (Huntsinger, Hagedorn (2)). Committee members suggested potential wording changes for greater clarity. The motion passed as an introduction item.
