1.     Approve minutes of February 3, 2011 meeting.  APPROVED.

3.     Announcements.   
Mike successfully solicited volunteers for secretarial duties for the remainder of the semester. University budget committee meeting on 3-25-11 at 8:30 in Kendall 209.

4.     Proposal to revise FPPP 6 Hiring, to require an external faculty member on a faculty search committee. (Action)
Committee discusses proposed changes to section 6.1.c3, to separate this paragraph into two.  Discussion focuses around 6.1.c.3a.  The change is designed to bring the FPPP in line with what has become standard practice, and has been mandated this year by the Provost.  Discussion focuses upon potentially increasing service workload and the point is made that search committees are very important, and that external members bring transparency to the process and can increase diversity.  Mittman puts forth amended language concerning external member and their level of involvement.  Mills suggests placing “although” in between the last two sentences and this is accepted by the committee.  Committee then votes to pass the amendment to the FPPP.
