Dr. Kathleen E. Kaiser, a member of the Department of Sociology at
California State University, Chico (CSUC), was recently selected by
Governor Gray Davis to serve as a trustee for the California State University
system.
As a first generation college student, Dr. Kaiser attended Florida State
University where she received a BA in Social Science. She then received
her MA and Ph.D. degrees from Duke University in sociology.
Dr. Kaiser has served the CSUC campus since 1972 in a variety of roles:
Interim Associate Dean, chair of the Department of Sociology, Director
of the Applied Sociology Internship Program, academic senator, and an
assistant coach for CSUC women's track and field and cross-country teams--during
this period she was a nationally ranked marathoner and tri-athlete.
Beginning in 1991, Dr. Kaiser served in the Academic Senate for the
California State University system. While there she served in many leadership
positions including: Chair of General Education Advisory Committee,
Vice Chair of Academic Affairs, and as an At Large Senate Executive
member.
Dr. Kaiser has been nominated for the Pacific Sociological Association
Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award, made an Honorary Faculty
member of Phi Kappa Phi, invited to participate in the Oxford Round
Table, and to participate in the Conference on General Education at
the State University of New York.
