6. New Option: Option in English Studies—Action Item (Zhang)
Aiping Zhang presented significant editorial and structural changes to the proposal which prompted a request for postponement. Trechter suggested moving on the item while requesting appended documents to be sent to EPPC via email prior to next Senate meeting. Zhang agreed to do so.

[Appended documents received March 28, 2008]

9. New Option: Advanced Placement for LVN to BSN in Nursing—Action Item (Lillibridge)
Lillibridge expressed concern over articulation agreements and procedures. We were told that there was no formal articulation, but that it is handled ad hoc by School of Nursing, not K. Barther.
Passed unanimously
10. Change: EM 99-03 Writing Proficiency Course Criteria—Action Item (Hall)
Lillibridge moved to accept the proposed amendments; Tinkler seconded.
There was significant discussion over the advisability of having a specified exception for Foreign Languages for the 3-unit Writing Proficiency criterion in an Executive Memo. Other options were discussed including an add-on one unit course or allowing Foreign Languages to meet the WP requirement in the language of study (Trechter informed EPPC that the Chancellor’s Office mandated the WP requirement be in English).
Wyrick moved that the proposal be changed to 3 units total, not necessarily in unison; Challinger seconded. Loker moved to postpone; Berry seconded. The motion to postpone passed unanimously.
Trechter asked for a sub-committee to pursue the issue further: Ford, Lillibridge, and Tinkler agreed.
11. New Minor in Project Management—Introduction Item (Indvik/Trailer)
Berry moved for consideration, Brady seconded. Way asked about pre-requisites in the electives and their impact on non-business majors. Lillibridge expressed concern over the availability of/impact on resources outside of Business Management for this new minor. Chiang had question about the duplication of ‘project’ management classes in the electives. Meadows expressed concern over the impact on campus computer labs and wanted more specific data on student demand. Berry noted that the Dean’s signature was from November 2007. Given the recent budget situation and the proposal to launch a Pattern in Project Management (see below) as well as a Minor, he requested a more current letter stating support for the proposal from the Dean or Associate Dean. Trechter then offered a summary of issues to be addressed: pre-requisites in elective courses; clarification between this proposal and the (also new) Minor in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management; concern over resource impact of launching both Minor and Pattern (& Entrepreneurship?) at the same time; and how these proposals will affect enrollment for other departments.
Passed Unanimously
12. New Pattern in Project Management—Introduction Item (Indvik/Trailer)
Lillibridge moved; Daley seconded. Discussion centered mostly on need for both Minor and Pattern. Daley observed that if the Core requirements had been included in the documents it would have been easier to discern and understand.
Passed Unanimously
13. Name Change: Minor in Management of Human Resources to Minor in Management—Introduction Item (Indvik/Trailer)

14. Name Change: Organizational Management Pattern to Management Pattern—Introduction Item

16. Adjournment: 4:15 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Lyndall Ellingson
