EPPC Minutes November 29, 2007

-Today at 4:00 Bill Collins will lecture on Armenia and Uartians
-Museum of Anthropology opens exhibit from cave art to email. Open from Dec. 9th to May 23rd, top floor of Langdon
-Second floor BMU there is a new art exhibit “Children During Wars” funded by AS and University CAL committee
-Backpack Project: There will be a fundraising dance-a-thon on December 8th, YOLO 109/112
-EPPC Chair, Trechter last year as chair

4) Deletion: Pattern in corporate Financial Management and Pattern in Professional Accounting – Action Item.  Jim Mensching summarized changes that we requested.
Passed with two abstentions.

5) New Option in Professional Science Master’s (PSM) in Environmental Science – Introduction Item M/Misra/, S/Lillibridge

Background from Dean Place: The PSM was in response to the Chancellor’s Office Initiative, sponsored by the Sloan Foundation.  The students served would be those that are not intending to go on to “higher level skills.”  This Master’s would be for those interested in science resource mastery, personnel management, budget, skills that scientists might not have.  This is a collaborative effort between several different units. Regulatory agencies and agriculture are supportive.

There was considerable discussion concerning prerequisites, numbers or courses in business, whether all courses listed are offered frequently enough, whether department chairs from different disciplines had been kept in the loop, resources, and appropriate disciplinary oversight of internships and projects.

The New Option in Professional Science Master’s in Environmental Science passed unanimously as an introduction item.
