-A major rewrite of the student code EM will be coming forward by then.
3.5 Textbook ordering committee report
-Steffen Mehl volunteered to serve on Textbook committee
-Postma asked if the ordering could be run directly through the instructor rather than through departmental secretary
-Postma noted that they need to automatically check whether books have been ordered for a section
-Edebiri asked if the committee discussed the recent state audit. It did not.
4. Modification of EM 06-01 The Campus Climate Committee – Action Item
-Postma moved to untable, Battle seconded.
-Passed unanimously
5. Modification of EM 95-07 Policy and Procedure to Establish Honorary Names to Properties, Programs, and Facilities – Introduction Item
-Postma moved, Houston seconded.
-Postma introduced the proposal, noting that it now funnels all honorary names through the vp for advancement and that it now sends the proposals through the senate executive committee in order to preserve confidentiality
-Tropea asked whether something like the free speech area falls under this policy. Postma said no, because it is a minor property and the name will not be honorary.
-Passed unanimously.
6. Modification of EM 99-24 Policy on Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action in Employment and Education – Introduction Item
-Edebiri moved, Postma seconded.
-Postma asked about how the policy will be implemented in, e.g. who may be in what restroom. Schurr responded that it would depend on the intent of the person who goes into the restroom.
-Passed unanimously.
7. Modification of EM 03-21 Course Numbering Policy – Introduction Item
-Edibiri moved, Hoban seconded.
-Mills introduced the policy.
-Place agreed with the letter grade, but noted some remaining kinks. 500 level classes were originally intended for credential, not for graduate students – now used for “advanced” senior classes. 597 is redundant with 599 and should be eliminated. 697 was only introduced because 699 was already taken. Mills said 597 was for a research project, but 599 would be used for an independent project. Place also noted that 499 should not be used in a master’s program, and that should be left on page 2, so that people will see it. Mills responded that the EM is not where to send the public. The catalog or some other source is where students should go. Tropea suggesed adding an introductory line about the reserve course numbering.
-Tropea asked about how the 489 suffixes are added and whether there should be some policy guideline. Mills noted that the suffixes are mentioned in the guidelines. Tropea noted that it might be useful to say what suffixes are for in the policy.
-Kotar wondered if it was okay for 400 level courses to still be considered graduate. Place said it was fits fine with policy.
-It was discussed that 597 references should be removed.
-Yudell will make a proposal to separate HNRS 399H and ask Brautigam about departmental use of 399H to see if there are any.
-Passed unanimously
8. FASP adjourned at 3:37 PM.
