Michael Kotar is a professor and past chair in the Department of Education. He joined the faculty in 1986 with the MS in education and EdD in curriculum and instruction from Illinois State University. He also holds the AB from Augustana College. Prior to his appointment at CSU, Chico, Dr. Kotar was a faculty member and head of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD.
Professor Kotar teaches in the multiple subject credential program and in the graduate program in education, specializing in science education, research, and assessment courses. His grant writing has resulted in support for teacher education programs and candidates, as well as projects to expand democratic educational renewal.
Dr. Kotar has served on numerous department, college, and university committees. Notable among these is a decade and a half on the All University Responsibility for Teacher Education Committee, two terms on the Executive Officer Selection and Review Committee, as well as many years on the Liberal Studies Program Advisory Board. Dr. Kotar also has extensive experience with teacher education accreditation and program approval processes having served on many state and national accreditation review teams, and also assisting with preparation for four CSU, Chico accreditation visits as well as numerous state program approvals.
