My name is Jesus Quintana and I am studying Applied Computer Graphics and occasionally dabble in Computer Science. I like computers primarily because I’m on them 20 hours a day so I thought why not make a career out of it. Recently, I have been becoming more and more immersed in editing videos, which I have come to enjoy with a passion just as much as I love playing tennis. I enjoy all music from all cultures, for example, J-pop is one of my favorites. It is not just music but foreign dramas as well that keep me culturally connected with the rest of the world. It’s been a dream of mine to someday go to Japan and envelop myself in the culture. I do Aikido when I have time. I also have an activist side, which is why I am a supporter of STOP! (Stop Trafficking of Persons!). STOP is a grassroots mobilization geared toward spreading awareness of human trafficking. I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to helping out the community in any way I can.
A word of advice for incoming freshmen: patience. It’s absolutely OK to come in not knowing what major you will pursue. Take it from someone who changed their major a couple times. Search for a career that you enjoy doing. Confucius said, “find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” College is a place to find your passion, to explore the many identities of a person that you can become, and our experiences shape us.
