University 101: Introduction to University Life

University 101 takes a hands-on approach to life at CSU, Chico. As a new student enrolled in a section of UNIV 101, you will participate in all of the following inquiry experiences, designed to help you succeed in your studies and as member of our campus community:

  • Tour of the Majors: Find out about a range of majors through the eyes of faculty members who love what they study and who want to welcome students to courses and majors available on our campus. Do a follow-up investigation of a major that interests you.
  • Tours of Campus and Community sites: Join Peer Mentors, who are older, successful students, for a student’s-eye view of the library, local coffee houses, the local art scene, Big Chico Creek, Bidwell Park, and more.
  • Inquiry Project Planning and Development: Learn needed academic practices, including question development, investigative reading, team project development and creation of public inquiry project displays as you develop and examine questions of importance to you.

  • Community Activities:
Learn about campus organizations and the role you can play as a member; participate in activities that increase your involvement in the campus and community and allow you to make a difference.

UNIV 101 provides you with a flexible space (often outside the confines of classroom walls) for examining and improving your understanding of issues that arise in a range of your courses; it helps you to build connections with other new students and with CSU, Chico faculty and staff; it assists you in developing effective approaches to scheduling, studying, reading, and conducting university-level research; and it places you in a community of peers—both new and returning students—who support each other during an important period of transition in your life.

UNIV 101 includes several thematic choices. To learn more about these, find out about our Connections Program and our other available UNIV 101s (outside the connections program) that are not a part of the Connections Program.
