Class Field Trips Fall 2013
Gateway Science Museum is now accepting reservations for class field trips to explore our Fall 2013 exhibits: When the Earth Shakes; Spin, Balance, Rock & Roll; Mushrooms: Keys to the Kingdom Fungi; and Explore Our Region's Land and Water. Gateway Science Museum is proud to offer a variety of exciting, interactive and educationally-rich field trip options for all age levels throughout the year. The museum’s field trips further our mission of “Inspiring the exploration of science and natural history, in our region and beyond,” while also helping to support the educational goals of teachers and students.
Educator resources for before, during and after the field trip experience, directly relating each of the museum’s current exhibits (visiting and permanent) into California State Science and Math Teaching Standards and Guidelines for each age level will be available here before field trips begin.
Educators are encouraged to read through the field trip options below in order to choose the best field trip for your classroom and current learning objectives.
OPEN FIELD TRIPS:
Gateway Science Museum is open exclusively for classroom visits for all grade levels on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Open Field trips encourage open and self-directed exploration of the museum’s exhibits. Open Field trips can include all current exhibits, or can focus on just those exhibits that are relevant to your classroom’s current learning content or skills. Teachers may choose to enhance the experience by using supplemental curriculum materials and standards correlations that will be available here before field trips begin September 24. Experienced museum field trip docents dedicated to your class provide an introduction to the museum and to each exhibit you will see. They are then available to answer any questions, allowing for free discovery and inquiry.
|Days||Tuesdays and Thursdays from September 24 – December 19, 2013|
|Times||9am - 10:20am OR 10:30am - 11:50am|
|Cost||$60 per class (maximum 30 students per class). NOTE: Classes with more than 30 students require special arrangements and will incur an additional cost. Payment must be received 2 weeks prior to field trip date to avoid cancellation. Cost includes chaperone entry.
|Attendance Requirements||Two classes may attend each time slot. Each class must have one adult chaperone per 5 students. Chaperones MUST remain with children in galleries to guide them in appropriate behavior and safety. It is expected that the chaperones be active participants in the students' learning opportunity.
MUSEUM EXPLORER FIELD TRIPS:
This unique museum opportunity is ONLY available to 4th through 6th grade classes. Students will discover hands on activities led by CSU, Chico Science Education students.
|Days||Wednesdays and Fridays from September 25 – December 13, 2013 (excluding November 27 and 29 and December 4 and 6)|
|Time||9:30am - 11am|
$65 per class (maximum 35 students per class). Payment must be received 2 weeks prior to field trip date to avoid cancellation. Cost includes chaperone entry.
|Attendance Requirements||Only one class may attend each day. A maximum of three adult chaperones per class will be admitted.|
Location: Gateway Science Museum, 625 Esplanade Avenue, Chico (next to Bidwell Mansion). Please note that parking is limited and purchase of a parking permit is required. A parking permit can be purchased from the kiosk near the front of the museum using cash, coins, or credit card. Parking is $1 per hour.
