Field Trips Summer 2014

Summer field trips begin Thursday, June 5, 2014 and run through Friday, August 1, 2014.  Field trips are only available on Thursdays and Fridays from 10:30am to 11:50am. There is room for 2 classes each day.

OPEN FIELD TRIPS:  The museum is open exclusively for class visits of all grades. Docents will provide a brief introduction to the museum and then will be available to answer any questions, allowing for free discovery and inquiry.

Dates Field trips are available on Thursdays and Fridays from June 5 through August 1, 2014. No field trips are available on July 4, 2014.
Time 10:30am - 11:50am.  There is room for two (2) classes per time slot.
Cost $60 per class (maximum 30 students per class). NOTE: Classes with more than 30 students require special arrangements and will incur an additional cost. Payment MUST be received 2 weeks prior to field trip date to avoid cancellation. Chaperone entry is included in field trip cost. 
Attendance Requirements Each class must have one adult chaperone per 5 students. Chaperones MUST remain with children in galleries to guide them in appropriate behavior and safety. It is expected that the chaperones be active participants in the students' learning opportunity.

Cancellations, Changes, and Refunds: Reservations not paid by the due date (as indicated on confirmation letter) are subject to cancellation. Changes are subject to availability. Notice of cancellation is required at least five (5) business days prior to scheduled trip for refund or reschedule. Scheduled field trips that aren't canceled five (5) business days prior to field trip date will be charged 100% of the field trip cost.

Location: Gateway Science Museum, 625 Esplanade Avenue, Chico (next to Bidwell Mansion).

Parking: Click here for helpful parking map. For classes arriving by bus, please drop students off near the front of the museum. Buses are NOT allowed to park in the Gateway or Bidwell Mansion parking lots and must remain off-site during the field trip(s).

For classes arriving by private vehicles, visitors must:

  1. Purchase a parking permit for their time at Gateway at the self-service ticket kiosk near the museum entrance. Permits are $1 per hour or $5 for all day and may be purchased with coin, cash or credit. Please read directions on the kiosk carefully. The kiosk does NOT give change.
  2. Place parking receipt face up on dashboard of vehicle.
  3. Write vehicle information on the parking log which is available with the docent assisting with parking or in the museum office.

Parking in the lot without following these steps may result in a citation.

Do NOT park at the Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park when visiting the museum. Parking in their lot may result in a citation. Also be aware that many of the residential streets around the immediate area of the museum do not allow public parking.
