City of Biggs Internships
From: Biggs City Administrator [mailto:biggs1@biggs-ca.gov] Hello -- I am interested in seeing if you have some students who would like to work on some specific projects that would really help our little city right here in Butte County. These internships are unpaid but great resume builders, and will expose students to many professional contacts. GIS Biggs has an ArcGIS-based map of the city's municipal electrical utility. We need someone familiar with ESRI enough to collect legacy city sewer and water data and integrate it into the electric utility map, or provide overlays. There might be an opportunity to overlay crime stats, too. They could work on these at their own pace, our place or theirs. Standards The city has little in the way of design standards or building standards. We need someone to study best practices and draft some standards for approval by our city council. "Borrowing" from other cities is allowed! Surveying We have old survey markers that have been paved over. We need to identify them, protect them, map them. We may need to replace some. Perhaps an intern could evaluate the needs and prepare a project plan. Remodeling We have a 1935-era city jail, a WPA relic, now closed and vacant, that we would like to turn into a public restroom. Seeking a student who could prepare a plan to get this accomplished; we would use the plan to see grant funding to the job done. For more information please contact me. Thank you.
