Policies And Procedures
Getting Started:
Personal Accounts:
The computers may be accessed by geography majors or students enrolled in geography classes by logging on with the default username of "geopstudent" with password "9student!". There are minimal privileges associated with this login. In order to access all available programs, each student must set up a personal account by providing first and last names to the lab manager, Cathie Benjamin. You can expect the account to be set up in about 24 hours.
To login to your personal account, type in your username (i.e., the first initial of your first name plus your last name, e.g. jane smith = jsmith) with the default password "9student!". On your first login, you will be asked to change your password, which can be any combination of numbers or letters. You will occasionally be asked to change this password for security reasons. If you have problems logging into your account, contact the lab manager.
You will also have a personal folder which can be found by stepping through the following path:
My network places\entire network\microsoft windows network\labs\zenith\students\<your username>.
Printing
In order to print, each student must also have a printing account. To purchase printing privileges or to replenish your printing account, you must pay in advance in cash at the geography office Butte 507. Expect at least a 24-hour turn-around time to update your account. Printing costs are posted near the printers. You can check the balance in your account by logging onto a computer, right clicking on the icon labeled "gaia print charger client" at the lower right corner of each computer desktop, and choosing "details." Please note that any balance remaining in your printing account at the end of the semester is not refunded but is carried over into subsequent semesters.
Open Lab Hours:
The lab will be available for student use during hours that will be posted next to the door in Butte501. Keep in mind that these hours occasionally may be changed or canceled due to unforeseen circumstances and cannot be absolutely guaranteed. GIS software is also available in the open computing lab in Butte 211, and student folders can be accessed from there. A second floor lab schedule will be posted in Butte 501. Computers in Butte 501 power down just after 10 p.m. every evening.

See the lab manager, Cathie Benjamin, in Butte 502 during her posted office hours. If an emergency situation exists, go to the geography office Butte 507 for advice or contact the University Police at 898-5555.
Acceptable Use policy
The campus policy for computer use is online. Please review these limitations and abide by them. In this computer lab, there will be no food allowed, and only covered beverage containers. No open containers of coffee or soda, please. Cell phones are also strictly forbidden; students should step outside the lab to make or receive calls.
