Welcome to Interdisciplinary and International Academic Programs


As its name implies, the School of Graduate, International and Interdisciplinary Studies is home to a variety of interdisciplinary and international academic programs, both at the undergraduate and the graduate level. These programs allow students to pursue academic goals that transcend the boundaries of traditional academic disciplines, combining and synthesizing coursework from a variety of disciplines and perspectives in innovative and fruitful ways.


At the undergraduate level the School offers a number of academic programs tied to areas of the world, including degree majors in Latin American Studies and Asian Studies, and minors in African Studies, Asian Studies, European Studies, Latin American Studies, Middle Eastern Studies. A minor in Leadership Studies is also offered.


The School is also home to an undergraduate degree major and a number of minors in Multicultural and Gender Studies. These include the B.A. in Multicultural and Gender Studies with General and Women’s Studies Options, and minors in Multicultural Studies, African American Studies, American Indian Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicano Studies, and Managing Diversity in Organizations, Sexual Diversity Studies, and Women’s Studies.


The Special Major, also housed in the School, provides students with the opportunity to design unique courses of study leading to the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree.


GIIS also offers the M.A. and M.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies, providing the opportunity for students to design their own multidisciplinary programs of study to meet their unique needs and professional goals.
