Sexual Diversity Studies

(2007-2009 Catalog)

Over the last 20 years, programs in Human Sexuality, Gay and Lesbian Studies, and Queer Studies have become commonplace at elite campuses across the country. Introduced to the Chico State campus in 2005, the minor in Sexual Diversity Studies offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of sexualities. The program brings together scholars on this campus studying sexualities in a variety of disciplines, including Linguistics, Literature, Psychology, Political Science, Religious Studies, Sociology, and Women’s Studies.

This minor is designed to provide students with knowledge about the diversity of human sexuality across cultures, nationalities, and eras. Students taking this minor will explore ways society shapes and disciplines our sexual identities, and the effects of sexual stratification. They will also gain knowledge and skill to interact more effectively with people of diverse sexual identities and orientations.
