Minors Offered
Leadership Studies
Leadership skills transcend particular disciplines and occupations, and are among the most useful skills a person in any career can possess. Although some people are spoken of as ‘born leaders,’ the truth is that to a significant degree, leadership skills can be studied, analyzed, and developed.
CSU Chico’s Leadership Studies Minor is designed to help in this process. The minor offers students an interdisciplinary perspective on leadership principles and practices from the fields of business, sociology, communications, history, political science, public administration, health, and others.
Its courses tend to promote active student participation and involvement. For example, the speakers series course asks students to select and invite a slate of leaders from government, law enforcement, local business, health organizations, community activist groups, and other organizations.
The minor also includes an internship which assists students in finding positions where they can practice leadership and get guidance from those in leadership positions. The minor is also special in that it offers students a chance to be part of a cohesive cohort. Several of the courses are small and are exclusive to Leadership Studies Minor students, offering them a chance to get to know one another.
CSU Chico’s diverse and interdisciplinary program is one of only a few comprehensive degree-oriented leadership programs across the country.
