Modern Jewish and Israel Studies

(2007-2009 Catalog)

Modern Jewish and Israel Studies is an interdisciplinary program introducing students to the important idea and literature, sacred and secular, which are at the heart of Judaism, Jewish Culture and History, and the creation and maintenance of the modern state of Israel. Course content also hightlights the important contributions of Jewish life and culture to our understanding of Christianity, Islam, and Western law, philosophy, and ethics.

Students preparing for careers in the ministry, religious studies, Jewish communal services, teaching, multimedia and museum work, graphic design, journalism, computer science, music recording, as well as the liberal arts and social sciences will find Jewish studies useful.

Courses are offered through the religious studies, philosophy, communication, history, sociology, and political science department.

Jewish Studies offers a minor in Modern Jewish and Israeli Studies and a major with innovative curriculum based in part on online courses linking a number of campuses in the CSU system together.
