Mentor/Buddy Program
What is the International Mentor/Buddy Program?
This program was developed to help exchange students meet American students and other international students quickly. It is also a chance for study abroad alumni to continue having an international experience once they return.
If you decide to participate in this program, we will assign you an International student who will serve as a “buddy.” It will be your responsibility to spend time with this student throughout the semester and basically be their friend, introduce them to Chico and introduce them to the American Culture.
Mentors provide the following types of support:
- Pick students up from the airport or bus station (if possible)
- Help them get settled into their new apartment by taking them shopping for groceries and other necessary items
- Show them around campus, help them get their books and campus ID, and more
- Tell them about the coolest places to hang out in Chico, the best professors, and more
- Introduce them to your friends in Chico, and in some cases, your families
- Serve as an emergency contact in case they ever need immediate assistance in the evenings or on the weekends when our office is closed.
