Study Abroad in Thailand, June 2009
Students can take two upper-division theme C courses, English 353 (Multicultural Literature) and Sociology 354 (Intercultural Contacts) in Chiang Mai, Thailand in June 2009. The program includes cultural programs, village homestay, Thai cooking lessons, language instruction, and more.

Anastasia's Russia, June 2009
The tour will include 3 nights in Moscow, 2 in Suzdal, 1 in Kostroma, 1 in Pereslavl Zalessky, and 4 in St. Petersburg plus 1 overnight flight and 1 overnight train ride. The faculty-in-residence is religious studies professor Dr. Jed Wyrick, who earned his PhD in comparative literature from Harvard. “The tour will take us to the great sites from the Russian past and present: the vast metropolis of Moscow built on the site of a medieval wooden fortress; the neoclassical architecture of the majestic St. Petersburg, city of canals and the famous White Nights of June; and the ancient and fantastic towns of the Golden Ring, pivotal in the formation of the Russian Orthodox Church,” said Wyrick. Professor Wyrick will bring alive the religious background to Russian iconography, monasteries and cathedrals, as well as elaborate on the historical significance of the St. Petersburg Great Choral Synagogue, the Moscow Choral Synagogue, the Chabad Synagogue in Kastroma, and the Moscow Jewish Theatre. It is possible for CSU, Chico students to earn 1-3 units through religious studies or humnanities.

Ancient Peru and Machu Picchu, January 2009
The tour will include three nights in Lima, five in Cuzco and one in Machu Picchu. The faculty-in-residence is religious studies professor Dr. Andrew Flescher, who earned his PhD from Brown University. He has traveled extensively to Brazil, spent one summer studying wildlife in the Amazon River basin, and led the HFA tour to Ecuador including the Galapagos Islands January 2008. It is possible for CSU, Chico students to earn 1-3 units through Religious Studies.

Politics and Justice Abroad: Costa Rica, January 2009
The Department of Political Science invites you to join a trip to Costa Rica for the "Politics and Justice Abroad Program." This program will run in Costa Rica from Jan 4 through Jan 11, 2009 (also available as a one-unit course). Learn about he political and social & criminal history of Costa Rica through direct experiences in the country, discuss current affairs with local anthropologists and historians, and explore a culture that has produced some of the most unusual and interesting political and justic policies of the 20th century. We will also explore how Costa Rica is working to protect its natural and historical resources and how it is working to produce an equitable society by both visiting cultural and natural sites and meeting with local activists working on socio-political and justice issues.
