Old Business

  • How to increase enrollment in IS 101 International Forum? Get larger hall; make possibly variable credit (1/ 2/ 3 credit, depending on work done); extend over one year. Link possibly with First Year program, possibly with some majors or other programs.
  • New CELT grant priorities that emphasize internationalization. To be highlighted as thread in CELT conference.

New Business

  • Proposed world perspectives in film course, to draw large audience to course — possible model might be sports in film class, which gets regular large enrollment.
  • Offer a second IS course on ‘current affairs’? Global issues and themes?
  • Possibility of an International Thread to be put together in GE.
  • Loker says willing to pilot first-year possibilities of affiliation with world region / international community in First Year Experience program/ University 101. Issues also of transfer students, possibility of distributed minor.
  • Next year's Book in Common is Ishmael Lo's ‘A Long Way Gone’, by a former Sierra Leonean child soldier. Can be worked into campuswide internationalization themes, ideas of self and community in First Year Experience.
