Campus Internationalization
The School of Graduate, International, and Interdisciplinary Studies is leading the university-wide process of developing a written plan for campus internationalization.
Campus Internationalization is defined as the process of integrating an international and intercultural dimension into the teaching, research, and service functions of an institution:
For faculty, this means developing a curriculum which gives international and intercultural knowledge and abilities, aimed at preparing students for performing (professionally, socially, and emotionally) in an international and multicultural context.
For staff and administrators, this means ensuring that an orientation towards internationalization is incorporated into the University’s strategic plan, policies, decision-making, and operations.
As part of the process of developing a plan, task groups are being formed to assess the current situation, develop plans for the future, and begin to implement relevant programs.
The task groups are:
- Steering Committee
- Integrating international students into the campus and community
- Advancement/fundraising for international programs and scholarships
- International service-learning and internships
- Curriculum development
- Communication and networking
(making better use of the media, improving our communication infrastructure, providing opportunities for people to make connections through technology and in real life) - Faculty and staff development
These areas were identified at a September 2007 forum, attended by more than 80 students, staff, and faculty from across the campus. (See Forum Report). For more information on the work of each task group, or to join, please select the link above.
