Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship

The Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship of $5,000 is available for award in 2012 to an upper-division undergraduate or graduate student of public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration (with a specific focus on governmental nonprofit management).  The purpose is to recognize the outstanding performance by minority students preparing for careers in state and local government finance.  The winner will be invited to attend the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada’s (GFOA) annual conference in Chicago, Illinois, June 10-13, 2012, where the award will be presented. The GFOA will provide the winner a complimentary annual conference registration, transportation costs to Chicago as well as hotel accommodations.  Deadline to apply has passed. We will post the new 2013 deadline when it becomes available. 

Eligibility:

-Current full- or part-time upper-division undergraduate or graduate student in public administration, governmental accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration (with specific focus on government or nonprofit management).

-Belong to one of the following groups (as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau): Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino.

-Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.

-Recommendation by student’s academic advisor, department chair (undergraduate students), or dean of the graduate program (graduate students).

- Student has not been a past winner of any GFOA scholarship.

Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship


The 2012 Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship of $5,000 is available for award to one or more undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in full-time study preparing for a career in state and local government finance. The winner will be invited to attend the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada’s (GFOA) annual conference in Chicago, Illinois, June 10-13, 2012, where the award will be presented. The GFOA will provide a complimentary annual conference registration and pay for transportation costs to Chicago as well as hotel accommodations.  Deadline to apply has passed. We will post the new 2013 deadline when it becomes available. 

Eligibility:

-Current full-time, undergraduate or graduate accounting student preparing for a career in state and local government finance.

-Undergraduate students must be in the process of completing at least their junior year by the time the scholarship is awarded.

-Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.

-Recommendation by student’s academic advisor or the chair of the accounting program.

-Student has not been a past winner of any GFOA scholarship.

Daniel B. Goldberg Scholarship

The 2012 Daniel B. Goldberg Scholarship of $10,000 is available to a full-time graduate student who is pursuing an advanced degree preparing for a career in state or local government finance. This scholarship is funded by the Girard Miller Foundation. The winner will be invited to attend the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada’s (GFOA) annual conference in Chicago, Illinois, June 10-13, 2012, where the award will be presented. The GFOA will provide a complimentary annual conference registration and pay for transportation costs to Chicago and hotel accommodations.  Deadline to apply has passed. We will post the new 2013 deadline when it becomes available. 

Eligibility:

-Current full-time student in a graduate program that prepares students for careers in state and local government finance and expecting to be enrolled in the spring 2012 semester (including Spring 2012 graduates).

-Baccalaureate degree or its equivalent.

-Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.

-Recommendation from student’s academic advisor or dean of the graduate program.

- Student has not been a past winner of any GFOA scholarship.

Government Finance Professional Development Scholarship

The Government Finance Professional Development Scholarship of $5,000 is available for award in 2012 to one or more employees of a state or local government enrolled in part-time graduate study preparing for a career in state and local government finance. The winner(s) will be invited to attend the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada’s (GFOA) annual conference in Chicago, Illinois, June 10-13, 2012, where the award will be presented. The GFOA will provide a complimentary annual conference registration and pay for transportation costs to Chicago and hotel accommodations. Deadline to apply has passed. We will post the new 2013 deadline when it becomes available. 

Eligibility:

-Employed at least two years by one or more state or local governments.

-Recommendation by your academic advisor or dean of the graduate program.

-Recommendation by your employer.

-Current part-time graduate student in public administration, government accounting, finance, economics, or business administration preparing for a career in state or local government finance; student must expect to be enrolled in the Spring 2012 semester (including Spring 2012 graduates).

-Baccalaureate degree or its equivalent.

-Student has not been a past winner of any GFOA scholarship.
